3 idiots -storyline

  • Posted on January 17, 2010 at 10:08 pm

Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi), and Rancchoddas “Rancho” Shyamaldas Chanchad (Aamir Khan) are three engineering students who share a room in a hostel at the fictional Imperial College of Engineering, one of the best colleges in India. While Farhan and Raju are mediocre students from modest backgrounds who want to lift their families out of poverty, Rancho is a wealthy genius who studies for the sheer joy of it.

However, Rancho’s passion for knowledge and machine-building rather than exam rankings, conforming to the system and social climbing, incurs the wrath of Professor Viru Sahastrabudhhe (ViruS) (Boman Irani). Rancho irritates his lecturers by giving creative and unorthodox answers, and confronts ViruS after fellow student Joy Lobo hangs himself in his dormitory room. Joy had requested an extension on his major project on compassionate grounds—his father had suffered a stroke—but ViruS refused, saying that he himself was completely unmoved by his own son’s accidental death after being hit by a train. The professor then proceeded to phone Lobo’s ill father and inform him that his son will not be graduating.

Rancho denounces the rat-run, dog-eat-dog, mindless rote learning mentality of the institution, blaming it for Lobo’s death, after which ViruS hauls his rebellious student and forces him to lecture the other students. Rancho then embarrasses the staff and students by asking them questions about non-existent concepts (Farhanitrate and Prerajulization), prompting them to feverishly search through textbooks trying to find a definition.

Threatened by Rancho’s talent and free spirit, ViruS labels him an “idiot” and attempts on a number of occasions to destroy his friendship with Farhan and Raju, warning them and their parents to steer clear of Rancho. In contrast, ViruS’ model student is Chatur Ramalingam or “Silencer”, (Omi Vaidya) who sees a high rank at the prestigious college as his ticket to higher social status, corporate power, and therefore wealth. Chatur conforms to the expectations of the system, and works by mindless rote learning, and unethical means of destroying his competition, such as trying to distract his classmates by feeding them pornography magazines.

Rancho humiliates Chatur, who is awarded the honour of making a speech at an award ceremony, by inserting obscenities into the text, which has been written by the librarian. Chatur proceeds to mindlessly memorise and read the speech without noticing that anything is amiss, directing frequent vulgar language at ViruS and the federal education minister, much to their horror, and to the students’ uproarious laughter.

Meanwhile, Rancho also falls in love with ViruS’ medical student daughter Pia (Kareena Kapoor) when he, Raju and Farhan crash her sister’s wedding banquet in order to get a free meal. This incident provokes further run-ins with ViruS, but Rancho wins over Pia after first insulting her fiancee Suhas and then demonstrating that Suhas only sees Pia’s hand in marriage as a means of furthering his career by marrying into an influential family. Rancho does this by damaging Suhas’s expensive material goods, and then confiscating Suhas’s gifts to Pia.

The latter incident provokes an angry tirade from Suhas towards Pia about how much money she has lost him—he thinks that she was absent-minded and lost the present. After this, the pair fall in love and Pia saves Raju’s ill father by administering emergency treatment after he collapses. Meanwhile, the three students continue to anger ViruS, although Rancho continues to come first in every exam, while Chatur is always second, and Farhan and Raju are inevitably in the last two positions. The tensions come to a head when the three friends, who are already drunk, break into ViruS’s house at night to see Pia, and then urinate on a door inside the compound before running away when ViruS senses intruders.

The next day, ViruS tells Raju that he is being expelled. This devastates Raju, who is afraid that his ill father will die of the shock of his only son being cast aside and being unable to support the family and earn a dowry for his unmarried sister. ViruS sees an opportunity to break Raju’s friendship with Rancho by offering to expel the latter instead. Unable to choose between betraying his friend or letting down his family, Raju jumps out of the window and lands on a courtyard, but after extensive care from Pia and his roommates, awakes from a coma. The experience has changed Farhan and Raju, and they adopt Rancho’s outlook. Farhan decides to pursue his love of photography, while Raju is unexpectedly given an interview for a corporate job. He attends in plaster and a wheelchair and gives a series of non-conformal and frank answers. After turning Raju down, the stunned recruitment personnel change their mind and tell Raju to name whatever salary he wants.

However, ViruS in unsympathetic and vows to make the final exam as hard as possible so that Raju is unable to graduate. Pia hears him and angrily confronts him, and when ViruS gives the same ruthless reply he gives to his students, she denounces him in the same way that Rancho did over the suicide of Lobo. Pia reveals that Viru’s son and her brother was not killed in an accident but committed suicide in front of a train and left a letter because ViruS had forced him to pursue a career in engineering over his love for literature; ViruS always mentioned that he unsympathetically failed his son on the ICE entrance exams over and over to every new intake of ICE students. After this, Pia walks out on the family home, and takes ViruS’s spare keys with her.

She tells Rancho of the exam, and he and Farhan break into ViruS’s office and steals the exam and give it to Raju, who with his new-found attitude, is unconcerned with the prospect of failing, and refuses to cheat and throws the paper away. However, ViruS catches the trio and expels them on the spot. However, they earn a reprieve when Viru’s pregnant elder daughter goes into labour at the same time.

A heavy storm cuts all power and traffic, and Pia is still in self-imposed exile, so she tells Rancho to deliver the baby in the college common room with the help of a webcam, after Rancho restores power with a self-styled electricity generator that ViruS had earlier mocked. After the baby is apparently stillborn, Rancho resuscitates it. ViruS reconciles with Rancho and his friends and allows them to take their final exams and they graduate. Rancho comes first and is awarded ViruS’s pen, which the professor had been keeping for decades before finding a brilliant enough student to gift it to. Their story is framed as a flashback from the present day, ten years after Chatur vowed revenge on Rancho for embarrassing him at the speech night and promised to become more successful than Rancho a decade later. Having lost contact with Rancho, who disappeared during the graduation party and went into seclusion, Raju and Farhan begin a journey to find him.

They are joined by Chatur, now a wealthy and successful businessman, who joins them, brazenly confident that he has surpassed Rancho. Chatur is also looking to seal a deal with a business associate named Phunsukh Wangdu. Chatur sees Wangdu, who has hundreds of patents, as his ticket to further social climbing. When they find Rancho’s house, they walk into his father’s funeral, and find a completely different Rancho. After accusing the new man of stealing their friend’s identity and profiting from his intellect, the host pulls a gun on them, but Farhan and Raju turn the tables by seizing the father’s ashes and threatening to flush them down the toilet.

The householder capitulates and says that their friend was a destitute servant boy who loved learning, while he, the real Rancho, was a lazy wealthy child who disliked study, so the family agreed to let the servant boy study in Rancho’s place instead of labouring. In return, the real Rancho would pocket the qualifications and the benefits thereof, while the impersonator would sever all contact with the world and start a new life. The real Rancho reveals that his impersonator is now a schoolteacher in Ladakh….Read the rest of the story.Click Here

Discrimination is still prevalent

  • Posted on January 17, 2010 at 7:07 pm

The word “modernization” – has it had any effect on the condition of Indian women?  Yes, nowadays women are financially independent, they are wearing modern clothes, they are traveling alone – but is this enough?

Everybody is aware of the pathetic condition of Indian women in villages, hence in this article, we would basically focus on urban women.  Let us view their journey from the day they are born.  It is a great relief to see that the birth of a girl child is not considered a sin in most of the urban families.  There are many men, who want to have a daughter.  The paternal grandparents also accept the birth of their first granddaughter happily and at the same time, pray to God that next time, their son should be blessed with a boy!   If next time also their son has a baby girl – outwardly they may show to the world that they are proud grandparents of two girls, but internally they would always lament and wish that their son should have had a boy as his second child and that now their family linage would end and there would be nobody to take their family name forward.

Complexion and features of a girl child really matters in a country like India.  Girls with fair skin are always given preference.  Mothers encourage their daughters to use fairness creams from an early age.  If an Aunt or Uncle’s daughter is fairer – then the poor girl has had it.  She would be forced to use face packs, home remedies would be suggested from all the ends just to make her look fairer.  Why don’t we realize that most of our Indian girls who have become Miss Universe / Miss World have a wheatish complexion.  Look at Sushmita Sen, Dyna Hyden, Priyanka Chopra.  Do they have fair skin – No – but are they famous – Yes indeed they are.

Education of a girl child in urban India is no doubt considered very important and most of the parents want that their daughters to complete their studies, be well employed and then only get married.  But here also discrimination is prevalent.  60% of the parents want their daughters to study in Girls College.  How come these parents don’t think of sending their sons to Boys College only?  If a girl wants to go in for some professional studies – for instance if she wants to become a doctor or an engineer or wants to do MBA, parents normally put this condition that she should get admission in the city in which they are living and that they are not willing to send their daughters to other cities for studies.  But see the irony these very parents have no issues in sending their sons not only to other cities but also abroad for studies and they even shamelessly boast in front of their relatives and friends that their sons are studying abroad!  I agree that some parents are concerned about the safety of their daughters and hence don’t want them to go alone to another city.  But there are many hypocrite parents who feel that their daughters would get spoilt if they were sent alone!  Can any one please tell me why these parents don’t feel that way for their sons?  Or is it that in this country, boys are allowed to get spoilt but girls have to be disciplined?!

Pub culture has become quite popular in most of the Metropolitan cities of India.  Girls and boys go there, have a few drinks, dance and enjoy themselves.  But 80% of the girls who visit these pubs, do so without the knowledge of their parents.  They make excuses and go to these pubs.  Why?  The reason is that no matter how modern we may call ourselves, the fact remains that we always look down at those girls who drink and smoke in our society.  We tend to raise a finger at their upbringing.  But why don’t we do so in case of boys?  When marriages are fixed, if boy drinks/smokes occasionally, it is considered a normal thing, as he is a man.  But if a girl says that she drinks/smokes occasionally, many eyebrows are raised, why?

Marriage is considered to be a very sacred institution in India.  There are two types of marriages in India – Arranged marriages and Love marriages.  In the case of arranged marriages, the bride is expected to be perfect.  She should know cooking, should be educated, homely, simple, loving, and the list goes on and on.  Many in-laws expect that the daughter in law should be a working woman and should know household work as well.   Once the daughter in law enters the house, she is expected to take the burden of the entire household work on her shoulders but she is not given the power to take the decisions.  If she is going to be late in office or if she has got some official party, the husband expects her to seek his permission.  But does the husband do the same?  If the wife has some delegation in office and is getting delayed at her work place, the husband raises his eyebrows, but the husband has full liberty to come late at home giving the pretext of having false delegations in office.  Why?  A girl is expected to come back home straight from work, if at times she wants to visit her friends after her office hours, she is subject to so many taunts by her husband and his family.  But why doesn’t this rule apply to a man?  Why does he have all the freedom in the world even after marriage?  So many restrictions are put on the girl for visiting her parents but in the case of a boy – he lives with his parents only and expects his wife to adjust with them, no matter how unbearable it may be for her.  If a girl, who is non-vegetarian, marries a vegetarian boy, she is expected to become vegetarian with him but why is it not vice versa?

Love marriage is also not a bed of roses.  If the couple stays alone, then hundreds of fingers are pointed at the girl and she is held responsible for separating her husband from a family.  But why doesn’t the society realize the girl is also away from her parents so what is the big deal if the boy is staying away from his parents?  If the couple stays with the family then the poor girl is really scrutinized very severely by the parents of the boy so that somewhere they could find fault with the girl and once they succeed, they leave no stone unturned to poison the boy’s mind against his wife.  Infact this particular thing of poisoning the boy’s mind against his wife happens in arranged marriages also.  Somehow the boy’s parents can never digest the fact that their son is now married and he has to give quality time to his wife.  They want to keep him to themselves only.  A wife is expected to be devoted to her husband.  Her first priority has to be the husband, then why is it that it is not so for the boy?  A girl also is attached to her parents and lives for her parents before marriage.  But after marriage her priorities change.  Her husband takes the first place then why doesn’t a wife take the first place in her husband’s life?  Why is it that thousands of fingers are raised at the girl if her husband is all for her?

These days most of the young couples are working.  Many women are getting equal salary as their husbands.  But why is it that the burden of household work falls entirely on the women?  They are expected to excel in office as well as manage the household work simultaneously.  Why don’t the husbands help in the household work?  After all, the wives also get up in the morning, go to work and are tired by the time they come home.  If both husband and wife share the household work, life would become much easier.  But no, men wont do that.  If 20% of the men decide to help their wives in the kitchen, several questions are raised by the husband’s family and the neighbours.  Why is it so?

Most of the men are really concerned about the virginity of their wives.  The husband always wants that he should be the first to touch her.  If on the first night, the husband discovers that his wife is not a virgin, then a havoc is created.  Why?  Is there an unwritten rule in India that the women necessarily have to be virgins when they get married but the men can enjoy themselves before marriage also?  Why only before marriage, 70% of the men are unfaithful to their wives.  They tend to have extra-marital affairs.  The wives are expected to be totally loyal to her husband, while the men can do whatever they want!  If by chance, a wife is caught in an extra-marital affair by her husband, she is immediately turned out of the house, while if a husband is found cheating his wife, she is expected by the society to forgive him and save her marriage.  Why these double-standards?

Another very peculiar thing which I have noticed is that if a woman takes care of her husband, loves him, she is called a devoted wife and the society expects a woman to be totally dedicated to her husband, while on the other hand, if a husband takes care of his wife and loves her, he is termed as a “Joru ka Gulam” and is mocked at by the society.  Why?  I believe that marriage is like a cart whose wheels are husband and wife and they have to put equal effort to make the cart go ahead.  But how is that a woman in India gives her 100% to her marriage while a husband does not even give 10%!

Support Of Diabetes From The Family

  • Posted on January 17, 2010 at 5:20 pm

Not to be missed in the treatment of diabetes is support from the people we love. In truth, one reference notes that “the quality of a family’s time can be mutually beneficial” in managing diabetes in the family with juveniles or adults.

It is beneficial when those in the family are trained about diabetes. Knowledge will lend a hand of support to the diabetic. You’ll recognize imperative symptoms, and know how to take action. One family who offers support to their diabetic relatives noted how they can recognize changes in each other when medical treatment is needed.

Being able to detect symptoms like being sweaty, shaky or impatient will help caring family members to take charge of any diabetic situations.

Loving family members must strive to be supportive and patient with their diabetic family members. This support can be invaluable coming from within the family for the diabetic. The greatest support group is at home with love and care. Family and friends in addition want to understand that as blood-sugar levels fluctuate, diabetes can affect one’s moods.

A family member would never want to belittle or make fun of a spouse, sibling, daughter or son because of diabetes. Too, remembering that they have limitations on what they eat we may also follow their same diet plan. Never would we want to tempt them to eat something that could make them sick.

Remember you are an important part of your diabetic relatives successful treatment. They may not show it but you mean a lot to them. If you just give them some words of encouragement like they are doing great what a world of difference that will mean to them. Treat them like normal people with circumstances to care for.

Diabetes can be managed effectively, specially if the sufferer has cooperation from friends and family.

Overeating – Why Barack Obama is Like a Scone

  • Posted on January 17, 2010 at 4:06 pm

What a year this has been with the US presidential election. Although I’m now steering clear of political analysis, I will just say one thing, and that is Barack Obama is like a scone.

Before I explain that, think about what has been going on here. Any election is about making a choice – in this case McCain or Obama, which does nothing to reflect the subtlety and richness of human experience, or how we would want that reflected in the electoral process and the choices we can make.

But that’s how the human mind works, we put things into either/or categories. It has to be one candidate or the other. Once when my daughter was very small I was tucking her up in bed and I asked her if she was a pickle or a poppet. She had a think and said, “I’m a both”, which was an honest and intriguing answer! But usually people aren’t allowed to be “a both”; they have to be one thing or another.

This categorisation also works with food and leads to poor food choices. Many people classify foods in this either/or way and have a list of foods that are yuck and a list of foods that are yum. The yum list is usually, chocolates, sweets, fast food, and cakes. The yuck list is carrots and broccoli.

Some more sophisticated folks have a healthy list and a naughty list. Again, the naughty list is the cakes, fries and donuts while the healthy list is the broccoli and carrots. Secretly they may actually label these foods yuck and yum but won’t admit to it.

This classification system does not allow for the subtleties and richness of food experience. It also severely reduces our food choices, for once we label something as yuck how likely are we to choose it?

So allow yourself to have broader, more generous more varied classifications for food.

So here is my list of rich food experiences:

* Yuck and I’ll never eat it (probably most insects and turnips/swedes)

* A bit yuck but I’ll eat it if it’s prepared right (cabbage)

* Yuck once upon a time but now I like them (most vegetables)

* Yum – a long list including fruits, some veg and wild salmon, organic chicken and my husband’s home made pesto sauce

* Yum but only for the first one or two bites (cakes and puddings)

* Super yum (any meal prepared with love)

Once on The Simpsons they had a sliding scale of drunkenness – the top level was labelled “Boris Yeltsin”. My list is not as dramatic as that but more useful for making food choices!

So when you are choosing the foods you eat, don’t automatically categorise everything into yuck or yum – think about the types of foods you want to eat and how re-labelling might help you make better food choices.

Oh, and why is Barack Obama like a scone? Because a scone is also an either/or thing. A scone is a baked pastry confection (called a biscuit in the US, where confusingly what we call biscuits are called cookies. I hope you’re following this).

If you are from the north of England a scone is called a scone to rhyme with Ron. If you are from the south, it’s a scone to rhyme with moan. So, Ron or moan, take your pick but it’s an either or choice. So Mr Obama, when the election took place, was an either/or choice, and so is like a scone.

And just to continue the culinary theme, over here in the UK McCain is a make of oven chips. But you could call them french fries. Figure that one out!

Cry Me A River Senator Chris Dodd

  • Posted on January 17, 2010 at 12:08 pm

Just finished reading a tear jerking piece about Democratic Senators who are going to retire rather than face re-election fights for the first time in their lives.

You may already know that some of these inglorious bastards couldn’t get elected Dogcatcher in their home states after blindly voting for whatever the Obamessiah had on his socialist agenda, including the soon to be catastrophic health care reform.

But before they go, they’ll still have the time and inclination to pass cap and trade, a piece of legislation even more heinous than the alleged health care reform.

Today’s story was accompanied by a photo of the young daughter of Chris Dodd comforting her father after he delivered a self serving speech about how it was time to ride off into the sunset. (To a mansion he purchased after getting a sweetheart loan from the now defunct Countrywide Mortgage.) Dodd was running behind Linda McMahon, daughter of the Wrassler, for god’s sake. The Hartford Courier called him a “SLEAZEBALL” in a newspaper headline. And anybody who has lived in this area knows that he is also a drunk, and one of the towns elite abusers. But being a staunch liberal buys a lot of protection here, and that certainly doesn’t look like its going to change anytime soon.

Dorgan of North Dakota was also running behind many a 4H club prize pig, and his political life expectancy was about the same. The voters put him on the scale, took note of his dead weight, and said he looked like he would make some good head cheese.

Blanche Lincoln is in trouble in Clintonia, Harry Reid is as good as dead in Nevada, and we could only hope more of these idiots were up for election this year.

Ben Nelson is a dead man walking in Nebraska whenever he comes up.

Unfortunately for us, Al Franken will be around for another 5 years, the gift of the old commies from Minnesota. Franken, who failed at everything else he ever did, turned to the government for a job, and got his wish.

While the journalists pontificate on how long gun toting NBA players should be suspended, the political elites ignore our national security, give foreign terrorists Miranda rights and attorneys, and bow to Arab kings. Personally, I don’t care about Gilbert Arenas storing his guns at work, but I do care that the borders are still wide open, and that I will have to pay health care costs for every Tom, Dick, and Harry that walks across the river. And I care that Obama wants to turn us into Kenya. (Where he was born.)

Call me any name you want. (I prefer monochromatic tea bagger, coined by the tall, leggy, dumb blonde, Chris (Tingle) Matthews, who has an orgasm whenever the Obamessiah speaks.) You can shorten it to the Big MTB on the street.

What I’d really like is to walk in to these people’s inner sanctums in my BVD’s and boots, (a very hip look), and give them some volts from Double Trouble, (about 1.2 million of them), and ask them very gently about their votes on certain issues. Then I would persuade them to cast their vote for what the people really want. Then I would have some pictures taken of me and the Senator in question. (For the fashion mags, of course.)

I think a picture of Chris Dodd’s face about 3 seconds in to a good jolt would make a marvelous cover.

I just haven’t figured out who would have to do the cleanup on Aisle 3. And I wouldn’t want to hit him on Bean Soup day, that could make Katrina look like a heavy wind.

Things are fairly calm here right now. Severe cold puts a damper on crime, but you can expect things to pick up shortly as Fat Al is scheduled to bring his Hot Air Express into the area shortly.

Infertility and Des Exposure

  • Posted on January 17, 2010 at 10:20 am

Women who were pregnant between 1938 and 1971 were commonly given diethylstilbestrol (DES) by their doctors. DES is a synthetic estrogen. Doctors used to believe that DES helped to reduce the number of miscarriages and premature births that women were experiencing. If your mother was given DES, then you may experience some infertility problems or other health complications as a result.

First, try to determine if your mother was given DES during her pregnancy with you. This may be hard to determine because it may have happened so long ago. Also, many doctors just told their patients that they were taking vitamins. The really sad part about this is that DES exposure can cause cancer and infertility in the women that took it, as well as their children. If you determine that you were exposed to DES, then you should inform your doctor or infertility specialist so that special care can be taken, especially during infertility treatment.

Being exposed to DES in utero puts women at a higher risk for pregnancy complications such as ectopic pregnancies, miscarriage or premature deliveries. This does not mean that you are incapable of becoming pregnant and carrying to term if you have been exposed to DES. Many women do become pregnant and carry to term despite their exposure. The reasons that DES has negative effects on women are not entirely clear. It is widely believed that the DES exposure affects the formation of the cervix. If this is true, then it can explain why exposed women have a higher number of miscarriages than non-exposed women.

If you suspect that you have been exposed to DES, then it is very important to work closely with your family physician or infertility specialist. Your doctor should order screenings to see if you have any of the negative health effects of DES exposure. Breast exams and mammograms should be performed regularly. Self breast exams should be performed at least monthly so that you can catch changes early. You should receive regular pelvic exams and PAP smears. Your doctor may do an extra type of PAP smear to check for clear cell adencarcinoma, believed to be caused by DES exposure.

Clear cell adencarcinoma is the type of cancer believed to be linked to DES exposure. This is a rare type of cancer that affects the vagina and cervix. Survival rates are very high for this type of cancer. The most common treatment for clear cell adencarcinoma is surgery. The surgery usually includes the removal of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. Occasionally the vagina, or parts of the vagina, must also be removed. The surrounding lymph glands may also be removed. Radiation may also be used to treat the cancer.

Work closely with a caring physician or infertility specialist that understands what you could be facing. If it is determined that you were exposed to DES, then you will need special health care as well as special pregnancy monitoring in your quest to conquer infertility.

On occasion, patients of Dr. Daiter, Eric have offered their testimonials for other couples seeking quality infertility treatment. This testimonial may help you with your decision when you are choosing a reproductive endocrinologist for your infertility treatment.

Dr. Daiter, Eric was always discussing with us where we were and what our next options were. He explained all the various treatments from mildly aggressive to very aggressive and worked with us to come up with a plan that we all felt comfortable with. I always felt like he kept me very well informed so that I could make intelligent choices. He always personally called me when ever I had some tests done, as soon as he got the results and discussed them. This was usually within a day of the tests being done. That really stood out in my mind because, with all my other doctors, when I have lab work done, it takes a good week before I hear anything from them. Even then, many times their policy is to have the office staff call only when there is a problem. You can only hope that nothing was overlooked.

I spoke to other people who were going to other Infertility Specialists in the area and they said their doctors would only discuss the test results after a whole series of tests were done. The patients expressed that the doctors made them feel rushed and uncomfortable asking a lot of questions. They also expressed that the office staff was rude and abrupt with them when they called with questions. I was very fortunate – I never felt this way with Dr. Daiter, Eric or his office staff.

The Evil Outcome of the Second Glass of Wine

  • Posted on January 17, 2010 at 10:07 am

In Genesis 9, the first glass of wine Biblically justifies Racism, Color discrimination and Slavery. Herein, the second glass of wine Biblically justifies.

Herein in Genesis 19, , the second glass of wine Biblically justifies committing adultery between the daughter and her father (Lot); a very shameful evil act that ended up with the creation of two big nations, Ammon and Moab.

The bible says that Lot’s daughter said: let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

This Biblical story contradicts with the science, the behavior, the social issues etc.

It is hard to believe that Lot did that and he never condemned what he had done.

Also, Abraham’s family and nation were not far from Lot and his daughters.

They could go there and marry and have kids without the need to commit adultery with their father, Lot.

Politically speaking, the Bible puts the two nations Ammon and Moab down because their root is the adultery between the daughter and her father; however, Ruth the Moabites was the grandmother of the Lord Jesus.

Minded with this Biblical story, in addition, many fathers in the Western countries committed adultery with their daughters.

You smart reader is invited to read the story of Lot in the Bible and the Quran to judge by yourself which of which.

Lot and His Daughters in the Bible

Genesis 19

1] And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

2] And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.

3] And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.

4] But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:

5] And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.

6] And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,

7] And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

8] Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

9] And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

10] But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.

11] And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

12] And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:

13] For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.

14] And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

15] And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.

16] And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

17] And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

18] And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my LORD:

19] Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:

20] Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.

21] And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.

22] Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

23] The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.

24] Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

25] And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

26] But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

27] And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:

28] And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.

29] And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

30] And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.

31] And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:

32] Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

33] And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

34] And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

35] And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

36] Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

37] And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.

38] And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

Lot and His Daughters in the Quran:

Lot’s nation was homosexual.

Allah told Lot to warn them and stop their evil acts but .they denied Lot.

Allah sent some Angels to Lot in the form of beautiful men.

Lot’s nation wanted to have sex with Lot’s guests.

Allah punished Lot’s nation and saved Lot and his daughters.

His daughters were more than two (at least three and may be more).

The Quran says that Lot’s nation was the first in the history of mankind to commit homosexuality. The Quran says that Allah left a sign for Lot’s nation; this sign needs serious scientists to dig for.

The Quran and Islamic teachings deny the Biblical story about Lot and his daughters.

The Quran consider Lot as a Messenger who had done his job perfectly.

The Quran describes Lot’s daughters as clean and pure and they never ever thought to sex with their father as the Bible claims.

Surah 7:80-84

[80] We also (sent) Lot: he said to his people: “Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you?

[81] “For ye practice your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds.”

[82] And his people gave no answer but this: they said, “Drive them out of your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!”

[83] But We saved him and his family, except his wife: she was of those who lagged behind.

[84] And We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): then see what was the end of those who indulged in sin and crime!

Surah 11:77- 82

[77] When our Messengers came to Lot, he was grieved on their account and felt himself powerless (to protect) them. He said: “This is a distressful day.”

[78] And his people came rushing towards him, and they had been long in the habit of practicing abominations. He said: “O my people! Here are my daughters: they are purer for you (if ye marry)! Now fear Allah, and cover me not with shame about my guests! Is there not among you a single right-minded man?”

[79] They said: “Well dost thou know we have no need of thy daughters: indeed thou knowest quite well what we want!”

[80] He said: “Would that I had power to suppress you or that I could betake myself to some powerful support.”

[81] (The Messengers) said: “O Lot! we are Messengers from thy Lord! by no means shall they reach thee! now travel with thy family while yet a part of the night remains, and let not any of you look back: but thy wife (will remain behind): to her will happen what happens to the people. Morning is their time appointed: is not the morning nigh?”

[82] When Our decree issued, We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay, spread, layer on layer.

[83] Marked as from thy Lord: nor are they ever far from those who do wrong!

Surah 15:57-74

[57] Abraham said: “What then is the business of which ye (have come), O ye messengers (of Allah)?”

[58] They said: “We have been sent to a people (deep) in sin,

[59] “Excepting the adherents of Lot: them we are certainly (charged) to save (from harm), – all –

[60] “Except his wife, who, we have ascertained, will be among those who will lag behind.”

[61] At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lot.

[62] He said: “Ye appear to be uncommon folk.”

[63] They said: “Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt.

[64] “We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth.

[65] “Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered.”

[66] And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning.

[67] The inhabitants of the City came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men).

[68] Lot said: “These are my guests: disgrace me not:

[69] “But fear Allah and shame me not.”

[70] They said: “Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?”

[71] He said: “There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so).”

[72] Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro.

[73] But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning,

[74] And We turned (the Cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay.

Surah 26:160-174

[160] The people of Lot rejected the Messengers.

[161] Behold, their brother Lot said to them: “Will ye not fear (Allah)?

[162] “I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust.

[163] “So fear Allah and obey me.

[164] “No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds.

[165] “Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males,

[166] “And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing (all limits)!”

[167] They said. “If thou desist not O Lot! thou wilt assuredly be cast out.”

[168] He said: “I do detest your doings:”

[169] “O my Lord! deliver me and my family from such things as they do!”

[170] So We delivered him and his family, all

[171] Except an old woman who lingered behind.

[172] But the rest We destroyed utterly.

[173] We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)!

[174] Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.

Surah 27:54-58

[54] (We also sent) Lot (as a Messenger): behold, he said to his people, “Do ye do what is shameful though ye see (its iniquity)?

[55] “Would ye really approach men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, ye are a people (grossly) ignorant!”

[56] But his people gave no other answer but this: they said, “Drive out the followers of Lot from your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!”

[57] But We saved him and his family, except his wife: her We destined to be of those who lagged behind.

[58] And We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)!

Surah 29:28-35

[28] And (remember) Lot: behold, he said to his people: “Ye do commit lewdness, such as no people in Creation (ever) committed before you.

[29] “Do ye indeed approach men, and cut off the highway? And practice wickedness (even) in your councils?” But his people gave no answer but this: they said: “Bring us the Wrath of Allah if thou tellest the truth.”

[30] He said: “O my Lord! help Thou me against people who do mischief!”

[31] When Our Messengers came to Abraham with the good news, they said: “We are indeed going to destroy the people of this township: for truly they are (addicted to) crime.”

[32] He said: “But there is Lot there.” They said: “Well do we know who is there: we will certainly save him and his following, except his wife: she is of those who lag behind!”

[33] And when Our Messengers came to Lot, he was grieved on their account, and felt himself powerless (to protect) them: but they said: “Fear thou not, nor grieve: we are (here) to save thee and thy following, except thy wife: she is of those who lag behind.

[34] “For we are going to bring down on the people of this township a Punishment from heaven, because they have been wickedly rebellious.”

[35] And We have left thereof an evident Sign, for any people who (care to) understand.

Surah 54:33-39

[33] The People of Lot rejected (his) Warning.

[34] We sent against them a violent tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lot’s household: them We delivered by early Dawn,

[35] As a Grace from Us: thus do We reward those who give thanks.

[36] And (Lot) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning.

[37] And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) “Now taste ye My Wrath and My Warning.”

[38] Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them:

[39] “So taste ye My Wrath and My Warning.”

My Divorce – Turning This Lemon Into Lemonade

  • Posted on January 17, 2010 at 8:07 am

In the early days of divorce, I don’t think it is possible to see all of the benefits that you might be accruing. In fact, it might just be impossible to see any benefit at all. It’s only in the years that follow that you begin to see why it might have just been a true blessing in disguise.

We frequently are incapable of telling ourselves the truth submerged in our situation. It oftentimes takes years of processing and working with those ideas before we can tell those truths to ourselves. Our friends might see the truth in a snap, but when they try to tell us, we protect ourselves with denial. It’s one of those “You can’t handle the truth!” situations. If we cannot admit it even to ourselves, there is no way we’d bare our souls to admit it to any other.

So we live with the pain, but little by little, as we struggle through the massive changes that divorce mandates, in our quiet moments, small thoughts begin to seep through our consciousness. “I’m glad he’s not here. We wouldn’t have had nearly as much fun if he’d been here.” “Oh she would have put a real damper on this party. Good riddance.” “Well thank goodness I didn’t have to deal with his drunken behavior tonight!” “My home has been so much clean since that slob isn’t here any more.” I could give many more examples, but I’m smiling because I think you are listing your own right now. Am I right?

You’ll move closer to the truth when you begin to admit to yourself and sometimes simultaneously to your friends, that your ex was a lot less than perfect than you let on to them; how their behavior really bothered you; how you hid it from your family and friends. Admitting to flaws is the start of one of the biggest benefits you’ll accrue: integrity. You begin to unfold the ability to tell the truth right in the moment without hiding it. Soon, you’ll be telling yourself the truth as it happens and it’s so freeing.

Then, there’s self-sufficiency. While married, each spouse tends to emotionally lean on the other guy. I knew that when I was all alone, even with all my sense of resentment and digging in my heels because I didn’t want to do something, I really got clear with that it ‘was’ only me. When my former spouse was there in person, it was still always and only just me, but I could not see that with her there, only after she left. I grew stronger and more self-sufficient as I lived my life with my daughters, and today, it’s such a blessing to know that I’m the only one I can look to or lean on for everything.

When I became honest, and self-sufficient, I was able to love and accept myself more. I could applaud the decisions I made; I could move without hesitation into them. I realized that I could repair any mistakes later on. I began to recognize not only my weaknesses (well, my ex helped me a lot with that one) but I began to recognize my strengths. I now know quite a bit about my character and my personality. All this courtesy of my divorce.

Did you get all the good stuff? integrity, self-sufficiency, love, and acceptance. These are critical steps in this life. These are your blessings in disguise from your divorce – it’s benefits! View them as part of the pathway to heaven. You are on that pathway right now.

Hemophilia – A General Examination to the Incurable Bleeding Disease

  • Posted on January 17, 2010 at 3:20 am

Hemophilia disease refers to a group of diseases. Each of these diseases affects the body’s ability to clot or coagulate blood. Basically, if a hemophiliac is cut or suffers from internal bleeding, the body is unable to clot and stop the bleeding.

If you’re curious about hemophilia and want to learn more about it, please read on.

Root Causes of Hemophilia

Hemophilia is a genetic disease. There are three types of hemophilia – Hemophilia A, which is caused by non-functioning clotting Factor VII, is the most common; Hemophilia B is caused by non-functioning clotting Factor IX; and Hemophilia C, which is caused by non-functioning clotting Factor XI.

Typically, hemophilia affects males. Women are usually just carriers. If a father has hemophilia, he won’t pass it to his son, but he will almost always pass it to a daughter. If a mother is a hemophilia gene carrier, there is a 50 percent chance that she will pass the gene on to her child. It’s important to note that hemophilia is relatively rare.

Treating Hemophilia Disease

Hemophilia does not have a cure. That said, the disease is typically controlled by adding the missing clotting factors to the patient’s blood. This is called prophylactic treatment because it’s designed to prevent bleeding incidents. Some hemophiliacs may begin to resist the antibodies of these clotting factors, so animal derivatives must then be used.

In other treatment news, there is new a drug that was recently approved which has been dubbed an anti-hemophiliac option. It’s genetically engineered from Chinese hamsters and believed to help the body begin to create the needed factors.

Usually, if a patient is undergoing prophylactic treatment, it’s an ongoing process that continues on a weekly or monthly basis throughout the course of his life. However, some patients opt for on-demand service, meaning they only receive clotting agents when bleeding occurs. This is the more affordable treatment method most often chosen by those living in the U.S. without health insurance.

In areas or countries where health care is covered by the state, patients can typically attend care centers designated for hemophiliac care. They are then assigned a hematologist, nurse, physiotherapist and social worker to help them with their treatments and continuation of care.

Alternative Care for Hemophiliacs

Some people believe that hemophilia can be controlled through hypnosis. They state it can reduce the amount of severe bleeds and help control bleeding once it starts. However, this has never been proven in a clinical setting and has not yet been subject to medical review.

Other methods include ingesting certain herbs, like scotch broom or grape seed extract, which are believed to strengthen the blood vessels. Again, there is no clinical evidence that suggest these particular herbs are an effective or even preventive remedy for hemophilia disease.

Speak first with your doctor, however, before attempting such an option. Clinically unproven options can certainly generate an exciting ray of hope when combined with persuasive anecdotal data. But your health is too precious – and for hemopheliacs, too precarious – to venture very far outside established medical norms without convincing evidence of consistent success.
