Eleven weeks ago your kid weighed twenty pounds less. How is that possible, you wonder. Well if your child takes an anti-psychotic drug, packing on the pounds may be hard to prevent, according to a recent study published in the "American Medical Journal."

These anti-psychotic drugs, used to treat a variety of mental illnesses–including bipolar, autism, attention deficit disorder and other psychiatric problems–may seem like a god-send for many parents of children suffering from these disorders. But the risk of explosive weight gain can be extremely frightening for parents and kids alike. Read on to learn some solid steps adults should take to help kids keep the drug-induced weight gain at bay.

Arm yourself with the facts.
Research and learn as much as you can about your child’s illness and the medicines that are prescribed. Educate yourself about the side effects that each drug may cause. Before allowing your child to take medication that can cause weight gain become his advocate and ask his doctor to try other medications that don’t have weight gain as a side effect before settling on the ones that may.

Lead by example.
Modeling a healthy lifestyle will speak louder to your child than any lecture ever will. Make sure that you aren’t ordering the supersized value meal at the drive through window or the extra double fudge sundae for dessert. We’ve all heard, "take the stairs instead of the elevator, park far away from the store." Now is the time to implement some of these suggestions to show your kid how small changes can make a big difference. Make it a habit to do some type of exercise on most days so that your child will follow your lead.

http://www/howdoigetmysonoffdrugs.com

Remove the chef’s hat.
Too many children are eating whatever they want whenever they want it and usually they aren’t making the healthiest choices. Reinstate family meal time and make one nutritious, portion controlled meal for everyone. No more taking everyone’s order. Let your child decide whether to partake in what is being served or to pass. Don’t let it become a power struggle. Sissy doesn’t have to eat, but needs to know that if she chooses not to she will have to wait until it is time for the next meal to fill her belly. It won’t take her long to figure out it is better to eat healthy than to be hungry.

Move it and lose it.
Get your child involved in outdoor activities. Camping, tennis, swimming, snowboarding to name a few. Toss the Frisbee around or take a walk after dinner. If your kid has more of a competitive nature sign him up for an organized sports team. Assign active chores. Vacuuming, mowing the lawn, washing the car, raking leaves, walking the dog. Little Jason can burn some calories, be helpful, and earn some extra cash.

Fortify your cupboards with nutritious foods.
Keep offering healthy choices for snacks and meals. Sissy probably won’t jump on the bandwagon overnight. Experts tell us that you will probably have to offer her a new food eight to ten times before she decides she likes it. On the other hand don’t vilify any food. Everything in moderation. An occasional cupcake won’t cause massive weight gain but if you forbid it you can be sure she will find a way to sneak it. Forbidden fruit always tastes delicious.

http://www.howdoigetmydaughteroffdrugs.com

Teach your child about nutrition.
Take your child grocery shopping with you. Read labels together, and explain the difference between healthy ingredients i.e. whole grains versus unhealthy ingredients i.e. fructose or refined sugar. Show them wholesome alternatives to some of the less than desirable snack foods. Teach them to shop the perimeter of the grocery store where most of the fresh, non processed food items are rather than the center aisles where the processed foods are stored. Post the Children’s Food Pyramid on the fridge and refer to it when you help them prepare a snack of whole wheat crackers with organic peanut butter instead of cookies and soda.

Cheer on your child.
Make sure that your child knows that you are his biggest fan. Assure him that the sudden weight gain is caused from a chemical reaction due to his medication and not due to poor choices or lack of self discipline. Instill in him the sense that you will always be there for him and want to help with whatever life throws at him. Whether it is weight gain due to medication or a crush on a new girlfriend, you’ve got his back.

If your child is addicted to drugs, please watch this short video about drug addiction and how St Gregory can help.

FDA Debates Safety Of Antipsychotic Drugs In Kids

A panel of medical experts for the federal Food and Drug Administration is being asked to approve three powerful and expensive antipsychotic drugs for use in children. The FDA panel begins a two-day meeting outside Washington on Tuesday and is scheduled to vote Wednesday on whether to approve the drugs.

The hearing and the vote highlight growing use of these drugs by children, even as questions remain about their side effects.

The medications — Seroquel, Zyprexa and Geodon — are already approved for adults. Many doctors and parents say they can also be life-changing for children and adolescents with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Doctors already prescribe them to kids, even without FDA approval.

A Daughter’s Milestone

Christina Bagno, of Brooklyn, N.Y., will testify about her 7-year-old daughter, who has been diagnosed with pediatric bipolar disorder.

"Back when she was 3 and before we tried medication, I wondered if she would be alive, frankly, you know, or at least living in our home," says Bagno, "because her own rages were so very scary and destructive. She would bite herself — to the point of bite marks up and down her arm, and banging her head. And now she doesn’t have the rages that she once had."

Until her daughter began those medications, she had hallucinations of explosions and dangerous things that kept her in a frequent state of anxiety and terror, Bagno says. Now she’s able to settle down in school. She’s learning to read and do basic math this year.

http://www.howdoigetmykidsoffdrugs.com

And there was another milestone this past weekend: her first sleepover with a friend.

"It was tremendous, and she was just so happy," says Bagno, who belongs to a group called Families for Depression Awareness. "It was a joy to watch — just to see her have a friend like that and have her be able to sit and watch a movie with a friend and have a pillow fight and just do all these things that kids do is just, really, a blessing."

Measuring Side Effects

Last week, FDA staff members released reports saying the three drugs do help kids, but that there are serious side effects. They can cause sedation, heavy weight gain and other problems that can lead to heart disease and diabetes.

"If these children are starting these medications at very young ages, they’re likely to be on them for many years," says Dr. William Cooper, a professor of pediatrics at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. "So the adverse effects, such as weight gain, increased lipids, increased blood sugar are likely to have potentially long-term and important side effects for these children."

Cooper says bad outcomes may be worse in kids than they are in adults, and there needs to be more study of the side effects in children.

After seeing a lot of kids coming to his clinic who had been prescribed these expensive and heavily marketed medications designed for adults, Cooper did a national survey. He found that the number of prescriptions to children had increased five times over a recent seven-year period.

Over a similar period, another study found, the number of children diagnosed with bipolar disorder had increased 40 times. Still, Cooper says that doesn’t explain all of the increase in the use of antipsychotics among children and adolescents.

teen alcohol rehab Des Moines ia ALPPInstitute

Cooper says he was surprised that, in most cases in his survey, doctors weren’t prescribing the drugs for serious mental illness. "Only one-third of the use was for bipolar or schizophrenia," says Cooper.

Instead, nearly 30 percent were prescribed to kids diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; nearly 15 percent went to children and adolescents with no psychiatric diagnosis at all.

Mental Health Groups Urge Approval

Still, Cooper thinks these medications are important tools to help children with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Most pediatricians and child psychiatrists agree. The FDA has already approved two similar antipsychotic drugs for children.

On the eve of the hearing, a coalition of nine national mental health and suicide prevention organizations released a letter urging the FDA committee to keep the drugs available.

"Like cancer, aggressive treatment may be needed for some patients with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, diseases with a higher risk of death than some forms of cancer," the groups said in the letter. They added that "no one treatment option works for all children," and that physicians and families need "a full range of medications and treatment options." The groups also called for more long-term research about the risks and benefits of these drugs to children.

The best boarding schools for your daughter are the ones which give the students the ideal opportunities they need and want. Sending a girl to the ‘wrong’ school is never a good idea. Just as there are so many different needs, goals and personalities, so too there are a variety of types of boarding schools. Let’s look at a few examples.

If academic excellence is the ideal for your daughter then there are many boarding schools which concentrate on this part of the students’ education. But beware of certain things. This type of school will have a reputation to protect. They will have an enviable record in graduation results and will have placed many, even all of their students in a sought-after college or university. In addition this type of school will have prerequisite academic standards and may even require prospective students to take a test or tests. Make sure your daughter is well prepared for any entrance exam, don’t delay as there may be a waiting list and be sure your daughter wants and is suited to an academic emphasis in their education.

Therapy-strong boarding schools are for girls who have been in trouble. It might involve drugs, alcohol, boys, poor self-image and such. If your daughter is in the at-risk or troubled category then a boarding school with an emphasis on therapy may be ideal for your child. Doing well academically is always important but first they must have self-confidence and a high self-esteem. Remember that there are different programs in each school so you need to know specifically what your daughter requires. Obviously you will then investigate only these schools which can deal with your child’s problems.

Finally there is the once-called tomboy type student who revels in the great outdoors. There are boarding schools with a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, bush-walking, climbing and sailing. It may also include the care of animals. A girl who loves this type of environment may thrive and, as a consequence, do much better academically than they would if in a city-based boarding school.

There are two important facts to follow up on in choosing the right school. (a) The parent has to do the work in researching the schools and (b) there may well be no such thing as the perfect boarding school.

Schools have their web site which provides a great deal of information. Feel free to read their prospectus, make a list of questions and contact the schools you think might be appropriate. If possible make contact with parents who already have a daughter in that school. An unbiased opinion could be extremely valuable.

Know that while schools do specialize and you can find a school which will cater for the needs of your daughter, it may not be perfect. In other words, don’t set your goals so high that nothing seems to suit your child. There are many wonderful boarding schools and they do offer a different emphasis and range of programs. Find the one which best suits your daughter and you are giving a young woman one of the best possible starts in life.

July 24th, 2006 ,Teenage rebellion can be a sign of health, especially in girls. In an essay contributed to Catching a Wave: Reclaiming Feminism for the 21st Century, Nancy Gruver has written that girls are understandably outraged by injustices. However, the process of socialization teaches girls to swallow their healthy anger. Unfortunately, then, the anger that could fuel needed change in our society is misspent. It gets turned inward as self-destructive choices, or girls express it, ineffectively, in blind rebellion.

Girls who are troubled are often the brightest and most sensitive. They either learn too well what society seems to want from them (such as sexual precociousness or underachievement) or they simply refuse to go along with the unfairness. These girls challenge us to find healthier ways to educate them to be contributors to a more just society.

Exhausted parents are torn between advocating for their girls and wishing their girls would “just go along and get along” in school settings that trample their self-esteem. While a family’s love and concern can do much to build resiliency in their girls, no single family is strong enough to protect its daughters from the effects of a “girl-poisoning” culture. If only we could train girls to use their energies to correct injustice in the world, rather than being self-destructive.

We can. One way to do that is to educate girls in an environment prepared especially to focus on girls – their needs, development, strengths and talents, and the way they learn. Girls boarding schools is just this type of environment

For instance, one girl was used to hearing boys yell, “Cat fight!” whenever girls disagreed with each other in class. When she transferred to an all-girls school, she found that girls were encouraged to debate, to speak their minds, and think through their opinions. No longer shut down by the boys’ teasing (which went on right in front of teachers) she developed her thinking and communication skills.

This effect is strengthened even more in girl’s boarding schools, where girls live in a girl-centered world 24/7. Many parents find that boarding schools give their daughters a more positive set of peers, so that peer pressure work for girls, instead of against them. Instead of feeling pressure to experiment with sex and drugs, girls feel challenged to be the best they can be.

For many parents finding out that their son or daughter has been struggling with teen drug abuse is a catastrophic revelation. Thoughts of failure, disappointment, guilt, and embarrassment flood a parents mind. However, you must remember that you are not the only parent to face such a situation. And more importantly, many families have overcome teen drug abuse in the past.
Many of them itself creates ideal conditions for the development of troubled teens, because it have proven that such teenagers have underdeveloped front part of the main brain, which makes it difficult for them to determine right from wrong. Many believe that troubled teens are product of the society they live in. But as it was already mentioned, it is most likely a combination of reasons that make teens troubled.
I realize it is not easy to deal with the fear of the unknown, however sometimes the fear can be worse than the situation. If you have trouble managing your anxiety of the future, then go to:

(You can read more about diet pills, natural alternatives, and my long but finally successful transformation from Fat guy to Healthy guy, on my Blogger blog: Celopin Diet Pill. See the Author Box beneath this article.)

Note: I don’t know if they can sue a guy, just for putting his story online to help warn others. But just in case, I’ll play it safe: No brand names will be mentioned in this article. (And no, the pill that nearly killed me wasn’t celopin.)

Anyways, every time they put me on a diet pill, I’d suffer through a list various bad side effects. And after I’d had enough (with barely any weight loss results by the way), most of them would be taken off market due to dangerous side effects (Note: discovered AFTER we all suffered!), or they were proven UN-effective in losing fat.

Besides, have you tried ordering diet pills recently. As I began my online investigation, I was shocked to see the hundreds of complains about diet pill ripoffs!

Here’s a typical quote:

“On 12/03/06 I placed an online order with www.(name removed)… they said they had some wrong info in there system and were going to call my Doc for a fax number… Two day’s later it said there was no information the day after that my account was charged and I checked online again and it said My Doctor had rejected it. I spoke with him and he said he has never heard or received anything from them! I sent them 3 more emails asking what was going on and asked for my money back no reply. Yesterday I checked again and it said they are sending me a non prescription alternative. I sent an email back telling them I do not want it I want my money back because they lied. Still no reply.”

Here’s one with a reply from a consumer advocate website (spelling errors left unchanged in the interest of accuracy):

“Ordered product from (name removed) pharmacy. They substitued a different product than I ordered. I requested to send product back. They stated that in their terms that they can substitue another product. I may return product but they charged $45.00 for processing and cancellation fees plus I have to pay return shipping.”

Response:

“I had the same experience with (name removed) Pharmacy – ordering one thing and receiving something else. So I called them and requested a refund. Of course, their pat line was that the fine print told me that I could not get a refund once the product had been shipped.”

And this beauty:

“My daughter, friend and I all ordered the “free” thin- tabs for the small shipping and handling fee. Before we knew it we had all been charged $149.99, this happened immediately, and we received a large bottle of the pills which NONE of us accepted and all 3 of us sent back ” refused”. We were all told we had agreed to a monthly club type thing and would be charged EVERY month.

…My daughter cancelled her credit card as the only way to get them to stop charging her monthly charges. My friends account was sent to Collections (in Bombay INDIA) and I have yet to see a credit on my Visa.”

After I finally got fed up with diet drugs, I started working out at a gym. The muscle-bound oafs were all recommending various “supplements” (just another word for “drugs”), to all the beginners like me. So like a fellow oaf, I tried some of them. More wasted money and time.

The answer to REAL weight loss is NOT drugs. The odd drug may work for awhile, but it’s just a temporary solution and the bad side effects just aren’t worth it. And the answer is definitely NOT “supplements” either.

I’m just trying to do the right thing, and help people to not make the same mistakes *I* made. Don’t get SUCKERED the way I did for so long. Consider yourself warned!

Now that I’ve “done my duty” and warned you about the worst (drugs & supplements), I need to warn you about the other failures people often encounter on the road to successful weight loss. To find out what IS the right answer to successful weight loss, read the next article in this series of articles posted at my blog (see the Author Box below).

We are all aware that the world is going potty in a mad sort of way, but when people start to follow suit then it becomes a worrying time for us all and especially more so for those if admission to hospital is imminent. People trained to heal are abusing their position (not all) by ignoring situations where compassion should be a number 1 priority. Is our hospitals curing or killing patients. Over the years the ailing has put their trust in hospital procedures, only to have them now question, is today’s welfare care worthy of our trust. Hospitals are under strict debate as to being a place that poses more threats to ones health than that of the plague, HIV and other killer diseases.

It was the harrowing story about Margaret Hudson, of Jarrow that had me throw light on this problem. Hospital officials are investigating after a nurse banned a daughter from her dying mother’s bedside. Margaret Hudson was ordered home while her 107-year-old mother called out her name at South Tyneside District Hospital. She was informed relatives could only stay during visiting hours. The ageing 75-year-old daughter was denied holding her mothers hand and to comfort her. She returned later with only minutes to go before her mother passed away. The hospital has apologised. It is too late for sorry. Did the nurse in question not have a mother? Fair enough should the presence of the daughter have interfered with medical practice taking place, then understandable, but this was not the case .

Miss Hudson said: “Mam was suffering and calling out my name so I asked could I be at her side, but was rudely told ‘no’. This was evidently a time for compassion Hudson said that she offered to pay for a private room but the cold hearted nurse turned her back and said ‘we don’t have one’, and sent her packing. We have all been taught to respect people who save lives but when they prevent those living to say goodbye to their loved ones, is an inhumane act where respect is gone. May this nurse hold her head in shame for a long time?
“I’ve been caring for mam every day for the past 25 years and when she needed me most I was not there.” said Hudson. Her mother was admitted to hospital after suffering a stomach upset and slept through the first night after her daughter was sent home. However, her condition deteriorated and doctors called her daughter, who returned at the official visiting time in the afternoon. A spokesman for South Tyneside Hospital said the matter is under investigation. He said: “On balance, we feel that on this sad occasion our staff was not as obliging as they might have been and, in retrospect, the lady should have been allowed to stay.

Are hospitals taking lives instead of saving them? Risk factors for hospital-acquired (HA) MRSA include:

MRSA remains a major concern in hospitals, it was reported in 2007 that 1.2 million hospital patients are infected with MRSA each year in America alone, these figures are quite scary and the number for those colonized is estimated at 423,000. MRSA is far more widespread in old people’s care homes than in hospitals. Carriers of the disease have can spread germs, even if they’re not sick themselves. The aged and ailing are more susceptible.

Patients on dialysis, or catheterized, or have feeding tubes are at higher risk. MRSA stands for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus an infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria (staph.) Many years ago, staph emerged in hospitals which were opposed to the broad-spectrum antibiotics normally used to treat it. It is an infection of seriousness, so serious it can kill. It was one of the first germs to outsmart all but the most influential drugs.

Regular place of habitat for Staph bacteria to settle are normally on the skin or in the nasal region. If a patient has staph in the nose or on the skin and shows no sign of sickness, are usually “colonized.” Staph bacteria are generally harmless like most other body bacteria’s, however if permitted to enter the body through an open cut, it can cause minor skin issues.

Symptoms of the Staph infection are easily recognized as little red bumps similar to acne pimples, boils or spider bites. Rapidly they can turn into painful abscesses that will need surgical draining. In some cases the bacteria may stay curbed to the skin, if the bacteria tunnels into the body, it poses threat – causing infections in bones, joints, bloodstream, the heart valves and lungs. Of course if body organs that keep us alive are infected then this is when the infection can turn killer.

Clostridium difficile

Healthcare associated infections have increased. One of the most prevalent and potentially dangerous is caused by the bacterium Clostridium difficile, known as C. diff or C. difficile. There is no evading this type bacteria, it is everywhere i.e. the air we breathe – the water we drink. It is harmless unless it develops in great masses in the intestinal tract of people taking antibiotics or other antimicrobial drugs. C. difficile symptoms range from diarrhea to life-threatening inflammations of the colon. Cdiff isn’t directed to hospitals altogether. It’s a growing health concern regardless.

Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) is a spore shaping bacterium present as one of the ‘normal’ bacteria in the gut of up to 3 per cent of healthy grown ups. Patients treated with broad spectrum antibiotics are at greatest risk of C. difficile. As like MRSA the risks increase if elderly or have a weak immune system. The number of death certificates in England and Wales mentioning Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) infection increased each year from 1999 to 2006. In 2006 there were a staggering 6,480 death certificates which mentioned C. difficile, a 72 per cent increase from 2005. Among death certificates with a mention of C. difficile, the percentage for which it was the underlying cause of death was similar (around 55 per cent) in each year.

This concern needs to remedied fast. Calling for “strict” hygiene standards in our hospitals is not enough; it has to be a “stricter” calling.

Â

Â

Does your son or daughter take Paxil? Has your son or daughter been hurt, injured, harmed, or even died as a result of taking Paxil? If so, it is time that you find out what mothers are starting to find out about the antidepressant drug called Paxil.

Today, mothers are finding out that Paxil was never intended to be used as an antidepressant in children under the age of eighteen years old. There are many lawsuits against the GlaxoSmithKline Company, the manufacturers of Paxil; because it is believed that they may have hidden or misrepresented vital information about the possible side effects that Paxil could have on children under the age of eighteen years old. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has never approved the use of Paxil among children and has posted several warnings that the use of Paxil could result in increased suicidal and violent thoughts, cardiac problems, respiratory problems, and other side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, tremors, and insomnia in children and it could have even more drastic effects on mothers-to-be. Research has proven and shown that mothers who took Paxil during their pregnancy had a higher risk of cardiac, respiratory, and other birth defects. The FDA reported that mothers who took Paxil during the first trimester (the first 12 weeks) of the pregnancy increased the risk by double of experiencing some form of birth defect or complication as a result of taking the drug.

Many doctors do not tell their patients that the use of Paxil was never recommended for children or pregnant mothers. Many doctors prescribe Paxil by using their professional judgment. Therefore, if your son or daughter is taking or has been given a prescription for Paxil by a doctor, it is a good idea to contact a Paxil lawyer to discuss the possible problems that may arise. There are Paxil lawyers available to explain the effects of Paxil on some patients and what your legal rights are in regards to the complications resulting from the use of this medication.

Many mothers are finding this information out too late. So, be wise. Investigate your child’s Paxil medication before it is too late. There are other antidepressant medications that are more effective and safer for children. Paxil is not recommended for children under the age of eighteen, so think twice before your child becomes a Paxil victim. If you have any questions, contact a Paxil Lawyer today. It is better to be safe, than sorry.

Abilify quiz!?
I have only been taking Abilify for a few weeks (I switched from seroquel, which made me gain weight.) and I own two questions. First, how do you suggest that I combat this restless urge to move all the time (which I’m experiencing as a side-effect of abilify) and is Abilify stronger than seroquel? I ask this because my doctor took me off…

Another seroquel put somebody through the mill?
Okay, ive asked 2 other questions on seroquel and im sorry to be so annoying about the subject, but im the kind of person that get really paranoid about side effects of medications. My question is, anyone that has be taking this… what side effects if any have you had? Im taking 100mg at night for bipolar, my…

ANy experience beside seroquel?
ANy experience with seroquel? I have ptsd and the doc put me on seroquel and clonasapam, along with librax. The librax is for ibs. The others are from clincial depression that I am suffering from where I hold been very ill for 3 months, and the lack of gusto, etc has made it much worse. I am wondering if anyone…

ANy experience next to seroquel?
I have ptsd and the doc put me on seroquel and clonasapam, along with librax. The librax is for ibs. The others are from clincial depression that I am suffering from where I have be very ill for 3 months, and the lack of energy, etc have made it much worse. I am wondering if anyone after waking…

Any information of side effects of inhaling xanax and seroquel?
a friend started crushing and inhaling seroquel and xanax, i am worried about her and the side effects. I cannot find anything online that deals with this problem. any information would be helpful. thank you Well. I am verbs and sober now but I wasnt always. Generally the side affects will be the…

Any ladies or guys prescribed Seroquel; how did/does it affect you? cargo gain?
If you will, specify which type of nervous condition it was prescribed for. first of all i was prescribed zyprexa. I gained 25-30 pounds surrounded by a month! So I went back to my doctor and she prescribed me with seroquel. Almost immediately I lost adjectives the…

Does seroquel assist beside this?
i have a stress problem where i get stressed easley and some times badly and I’m wondering will seroquel support with it? I take seroquel to sleep at night because of a impossible insomnia problem…one side effect is that you feel really sluggish the next day…the best thing is not to resort to drugs because most medication have side effects,…

Does seroquel grounds confusion?
Actually, Seroquel makes me LESS confused. I have trouble thinking clearly and understanding the element about what is real and what isn’t. Seroquel has helped me take better. Yes it does…smashed up my truck and was out for 2 days.. – OMG YES, especially if you are mega dosed! It also takes away emotion… the bad…

Does seroquel manufacture you sleepy?
Yes, definitely, although more so in some people than others. Doctors do prescribe it for insomnia sometimes. For me it is prescribed for that as well as other bipolar symptoms and I’ve done ably taking a small dose about 2 hours before I want to sleep. I’ve been on it for maybe 4 or 5 years and appropriate usually 100…

Does seroquel own smaller number side effects than risperdal?
My son who has Asberger/Autism has been on Risperdal for 4 years to control temper tantrums and irritability. He is 16. His MD desires to switch him to Seroquel because he says it does not cause weight gain as much as Risperdal does. My son has be doing very well on Risperdal, it really…

Does seroquel show up on drug test?
Of course it messed you up. Seroquel is a antipsycotic and is use to treat the manic phase of bipolar disorder. Pleasedo not take medicines not given to you by your personal doctor. It might, my 5 year old brother in law take it to “calm” him down. I don’t know why you would take it.

Does seroquel treat bipolar- depression successfully?
Recently i have just been proposed the diagnosis of manic depression, or bipolar. My psychiatrist wants to put me on Seroquel, an antipsychotic (the category heading is scary to me) and am very hesistant about going on such a powerful drug. Id just resembling some feedback from those who have my type of bipolar (depressive) about Seroquel.

Does the med seroquel make one gain bulk?
yes i take the 25mg and before i got on them i weighed 135 pounds immediately i have been on them for at least 2yrs and i weigh 189 pounds now yes, google seroquel nd see the side effects

I’ve be taking seroquel xr 400mg for a month presently; I lost the bottle. Will it hurt me to stop cold turkey?
As with any drug that helps with mental disorders, it is not clever to just “stop”. You must gradually drop dosage, otherwise you will go into a meltdown, and manic withdrawls. Source(s): I take seroquel, and other…

Ive read that you put on alot of consignment using >Seroquel ?
but ive never found if you can lose weight aswell, ive just started using seroquel and im already, >fat lol and i dont wanna put like anutha stone or 2 on do i. – i use Seroquel 400mg’s a light of day and I think your right, I have put on…

Ive taken seroquel for 8 years immediately and when i forget to filch it at darkness i wake up up vomiting. why do i do this?
i took this when diagnosed bi-polar to help me sleep. i cant sleep at all now if i don’t take the pills. i take 50mg a night. I was on Seroquel for a long time for bipolar/OCD/ADHD/OCP, but…

Lexapro Seroquel And Marijuana?
When I was 15, i took 20 mg lexapro. 150 mg seroquel and smoked weed every few days. Can this cause permanant damage? TAhere was a time when i thought i be hearing things and i always thought ppl were talking in the order of me. Things are getting a bit better tho. What caused the paranoid thinking…(I was Not high…

Medication?? bipolar?? seroquel vs. zyprexa?
I know how seroquel can make someone feel. Is Zyprexa like Seroquel? I know both can be used to treat bipolar but do they have like side effects or is Seroquel stronger? – I hated both! Zyprexa was significantly less sedating than Seroquel, but it has its own problems – it made me stutter & although it didn’t…

Mixing seroquel and concerta next to marijuana?
Well I started taking seroquel two nights a go. I took it once . I also take 1-2 Concerta everyday. Well I was told not to ingest any other drugs . But I smoked some weed, i’ve smoked weed pretty regularly for the past three years, I weight 110 pounds . At some point I…

My children are on depakote and risperidone they hold ben havin discouraging side effects to the meds.?
they are bipolar whats the next medication for them? – Expect a MAJOR weight gain Depakote. Seroquel and lithium also cause extreme wieghtgain. Ugh the horror. I was using depakote and seroquel and i go from 186- 224. i hated my body. Plus…

My 12 year antediluvian daughter take seroquel for mood disorder and we a moment ago found out that..?
My mom used to take that too. She stopped because her cholesterol. It probably does cause high cholesterol. My advise turn on something lighter. Not as strong. And if your daughter has a addicting personalty get her off those pills ASAP. They are highly addicting. Well for…

My daughter is 8 yrs outdated and she be put on seroquel she developed tremors will these jump away?
Whats wrong with Dr’s putting a 8 year dated on Seroquel That drug is powerful , I can’t take it cause I can’t stay awake while taking …

My dr prescribed me seroquel for a sleep aid but after researching it im startled to purloin it is it a accurate sleep?
is it usually used as a sleep aid as well as a antipychotic med? is this normal? I didn’t have a prescription, but i got one form my BF’s mom who is really psychotic..ok I took only ONE and this is…

My med seroquel is making me gain counterbalance . my doc threw welbutrin contained by the mix .will that assistance?
wellbutrin is an antidepressant and its a big side effect is decreased appetite. Ask your doctor about mortal put on Topomax. Not next to the weight gain persay, but it will up you a little as welbutrin kinda makes a lot of…

Ok so I own be on seroquel 400mgs for 2 months and decide to stop is thereanythingI should study out for?
decrease it gradually every few days or discuss with doctor how to do this. abruptly stopping meds can hold serious consequences physically and mentally. Source(s): RN

ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO TAKE SEROQUEL?
okay so, ive been reading up on the drug seroquel, which ive been taking for 3 years. Every summer i have about 3 seizure a day. I read a response to an article saying her son was heat intolerant. I meditate that may be the reason i have seizures only during the summer. What going on for you? How…

Overdose on seroquel, lorazepam, & hydrocodone?
My cousin is 17yo and just OD-ed. She took 15 seroquel, 3 lorazepam, & 5 hydrocodone. The ambulance just came and got her!! She doesn’t live next to her parents cuz her “mother” is a DRUNK and her step father is a meth head. So she lives with her aunt & uncle. Her “parents” live 2 hours away…

Overdose on seroquel?
Ive got 23,000 miligrams of seroquel sitting in front of me and im really tempted to take them adjectives and go to sleep. Im so depressed and cant seam to find help here in southern MN. I dont want to call 911 any and i guess i just need someone to talk with online on a day after day basis. Im a…

Overdosing on seroquel give somebody the third degree?
Sorry I posted this a few minutes ago, but I am just adding that it was an overdose of seroquel I tried and not alcohol or anything else. I attempted suicide when I was younger, almost 7 years ago and I don’t really remember what happened. I remember arriving at the hospital strapped on a…

Please aid me, I’m on Seroquel?
It causes diabetes and I take it for bipolar. Have any of you gotten off it? How? How do you get past its sell-by date psych meds? Thanks in advance I have diabetes and I take a low dose of seroquel. Not everyone can receive off their psych meds. For me, trying to do that would be like…

A variety of behavioral and emotional problems afflict teenage youngsters. For example, some of them seem to have great difficulty following rules and behaving in socially acceptable ways.

They are often viewed by other children, adults or social agencies as bad apples, bipolar, ADHD or troublemakers. If your teenager exhibits some of the following behaviors, you should consider counseling for him or her:

1. Hostile or violent behavior toward people or animals,

2. The use of threatening, bullying or intimidating behavior,

3. The starting of fights,

4. Carries a weapon that could cause serious harm to others

(e.g. a bat, brick, broken bottle, knife or gun),

5. Behaves cruelly, physically or emotionally, to either people or animals,

6. Steals,

7. Highly aggressive or demanding sexually,

8. Destroys property,

9. Sets fires, intending to cause damage,

10. Is deceitful,

11. Has broken into a building, house, or car belonging to someone else,

12. Lies to avoid responsibilities,

13. Shoplifts,

14. Often stays out at night, despite your objections,

15. Has run away from home,

16. Has been truant.

If a child of yours has exhibited any of these behaviors, he or she should receive a comprehensive evaluation by a psychologist. He or she may also have parallel conditions such as a mood disorder, anxiety, PTSD, a substance abuse problem, ADHD, or a thought disorder, all of which should also be evaluated.

Your youngster is likely to have ongoing problems if he or she fails to receive early and comprehensive counseling. Without it, he or she will continue to be unable to adapt to the demands of adulthood.

Unfortunately, he or she will continue to be at high risk for having problems with relationships, school, effective socialization and even maintaining a job.

If your kid relishes the breaking of laws and behaving antisocially, any number of factors may be contributing, including brain damage, child abuse, heredity, academic failure and/or traumatic life experiences.

Treatment of your son or daughter can be complex and challenging. However, it can be provided in a variety of different settings depending on the severity of the behavior.

Counseling with these kids can be very challenging because they often have an uncooperative attitude and a fear and distrust of adults and other authority figures. In developing a comprehensive treatment plan, a child and adolescent psychologist will likely use information gleaned from your child, your family members, his or her teachers and other behavioral specialists in order to understand the causes of his or her problems.

Behavior therapy, counseling and psychotherapy will usually be necessary to help your child appropriately express and control anger; special education programs may also be needed if he or she has any learning disabilities.

You will probably need expert assistance in devising and carrying out any special management or educational programs that may be prescribed for use in your home or his or her school. Treatment may also include medication if your youngster has difficulty paying attention, controlling his or her impulses or managing depression.

Treatment may not be brief since establishing new attitudes and behavior patterns for him or her will take time. However, early treatment offers your child a better chance for considerable improvement and hope for a more successful future.

You will probably need expert help in carrying out any special management or educational programs that may be prescribed for use at home or in his or her school. Besides counseling, treatment may also include medication if your youngster has difficulty paying attention, managing his or her impulses or coping with high levels of depression or anxiety.

Treatment may not be brief since establishing new attitudes and behavior patterns for him or her will take time. However, early treatment offers your child a better chance for considerable improvement and hope for a more successful future.
