Why is goalsetting important?

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 9:05 pm

Why is goal setting important? Because without goals you don’t go anywhere! Whenever you notice anything worthwhile being acieved anywhere, it’s because someone is behind it with a passion, a belief and a goal! When it comes to your personal life and your business, goal setting can make the difference between mediocrity and excellence and accomplishment.

Much is said about goal setting. But just how do you set and accomplish goals? Is there some goal setting formula or strategy that can be employed to increase your chances of success?

Thankfully, YES!
What follows is a blueprint for success in goal setting.
The Goal Setting Blueprint is as follows:

STEP 1. Develop a DESIRE to achieve the goal. The desire must be intense. How do you intensify desire? Sit down and write out all the benefits and advantages of achieving your goal. Once the list goes between 50 and 100 your goal becomes unstoppable.

STEP 2. WRITE your goal down. Once it goes into writing it becomes substantial and starts etching itself into your subconscious.

STEP 3. IDENTIFY the obstacles you will need to overcome, find the help you will need to acquire, e.g. knowledge, people, organizations. In each case write them out in a clear list and analyze them.

STEP 4. PUT A DATE/DEADLINE on your goal. Analyze where you are now in relation to the goal and then measure how long you will reasonably need to complete the goal. Then set the latest outside date.

STEP 5. Take all the details of steps 3 and 4 and make a PLAN. List all the activities and prioritize them. Rewrite the list, optimize it, perfect it.

STEP 6. Get a clear MENTAL PICTURE of the goal already accomplished. Make the mental image crystal clear, vivid in the mind’s eye. Play that picture over and over in your mind.

STEP 7. Back your plan with PERSISTENCE and resolve. Never, never, never give up even when you hit setbacks.

Follow those steps religiously and you will be successful at goal setting. These are the steps I use within my Lottery Business

DANGER – You can read this and think, “That sounds interesting. I must try that sometime”.

SO – Take these 7 steps and rewrite them on a card or in a notebook for frequent reference. Keep them on your computer in a note on your desktop.
Use the 7 steps as a BLUEPRINT. Keep checking your goal against the 7 steps frequently to measure your progress and keep yourself on track.

Then and only then will this article make a difference to your personal and business life.

Now the question is, what goal are you going to set today?
What goal can you set for your business which is going to lift it to new levels?
What goal setting are you going to implement in your personal life which is going to have a positive effect on you and your loved ones?
Take some time now and THINK about it!

Then? JUST DO IT!

What Is The Difference Between Self Worth and Self Esteem?

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 9:04 pm

The journey towards greater self awareness is long and trying at times but undeniably fulfilling as you proceed. The more self aware you become, the greater your ability to navigate and appreciate the complex human interactions you encounter in your life and handle them to your benefit. One of the key areas of knowledge that is essential to understand on your journey is the difference between self worth and self esteem. While many confuse the two, in fact they are quite different.

The best way to think of self worth is to think of how much you feel you ‘deserve’ something. Many highly capable and talented people sabotage themselves or don’t reach their full potential because deep down inside they don’t feel they truly ‘deserve’ what it is they are trying for. Much of ‘self worth’ has to do with our subconscious feelings of if we have truly ‘earned’ something.

Our upbringing and the environment in which we are raised can also play a big part of making us feel either ‘worthy’ of success and accomplishment or not. While self worth can be changed, it is through hard work and a gradual process where we put the time and effort in and develop the self-competence and ‘sweat equity’ in whatever it is we are pursuing. The goal of course is to develop a life in which you are truly in sync with your self worth and that it is aligned with your goals thereby permitting yourself to achieve your full potential.

Self esteem on the other hand is more immediate and temperamental. One’s self esteem can change from moment to moment or hour to hour based on more superficial things such as how we look on a particular day or how we’re dressed. If we perform well in a certain situation or are commended or accomplish a challenging task, our self esteem can get a temporary boost. At the same time our self esteem can take a hit fairly easily as well if we fail at something or get rejected in some way. As can be seen, self esteem is more an hour by hour and situational kind of thing.

Of the two, it should be apparent that the underlying self worth is the harder and also more important to concentrate on and cultivate. Self esteem is certainly important but is more fickle in its nature. It’s immediacy however makes it comparatively easier to fix and examining one’s situations on a day to day basis to make sure you optimize your self esteem and avoid situations where it will get knocked is a good strategy to undertake.
Constant good self esteem can aid in the process of pursuing the improvement of self worth while frequently poor self esteem can get in the way. It is therefore important to understand the differences in them but to work on both simultaneously.

Some Strategies to Define Motivation

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 9:04 pm

We’ve all heard a lot of discussion about the importance of motivation both in ourselves and in our employees. While the topic comes up a great deal, it’s difficult to define motivation because, like leadership, it’s a bit of an abstract term. You can find a great deal of information available on motivation, and this can help you create a definition to work from as you are working on increasing this important trait in yourself and in others.

The Broad Definition

If you’re looking for the most common way to define the term, the most common definition is that motivation is whatever causes people to act the way they do. For example, if a person robs a convenience store, he or she probably had some reason for acting that way – some motivation that prompted the action. Everything we do, including the choices we make, is going to be affected by our motivation.

Intrinsic Versus Extrinsic

These are two of the basic aspects of motivation. You need to understand these concepts in order to better learn how to motivate yourself and others to take desired actions. Intrinsic motivation refers to reasons that originate inside the person. For example, if you have a deadline, you might be motivated to meet that deadline because doing so gives you a sense of accomplishment. Extrinsic motivation, on the other hand, involves motivation that originates outside of the individual. With this type of motivation, you would want to meet that deadline out of need to keep your job or to be rewarded for meeting the goal.

When you define motivation in these ways, you can see how complex the idea is and why it’s so important to start thinking about what is going to work with different people.

The Goal Setting Theory

Different research methods have been studying human motivation for decades, one of the more popular approaches that have been discovered is known as the goal setting theory. Basically, the idea here is that people are going to be motivated more frequently if they have some type of goal to reach. The beauty of this theory, besides the fact that it seems to be true, is that it can work on both intrinsic and extrinsic methods of motivation.

For example, you may have your own goal to reach so achieving that goal would be intrinsic motivation. On the other hand, if the company offers some type of reward as a goal that would be a good example of extrinsic motivation.

Importance of Motivation

Research has discovered that employees who are motivated do provide a wide range of benefits. You don’t have to define motivation to see it work effectively. For example, well-motivated workers strive for higher quality, increased productivity, and improved methods of doing the job. Clearly, these features have far reaching benefits for your business. They can also have far-reaching benefits for you. Whether intrinsic or extrinsic motivation is what works in your workplace, you can be sure that it will be beneficial.

Fake It Until You Make It

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 9:04 pm

In 1987, I was hired by Allstate Insurance to present a motivational seminar for their sales team. One of their executives saw me speak on TV and thought I could help his team. This was my first motivational speech. Funny thing was that I was dead broke in the time and would be “motivating” a group of salesmen earning six-figure incomes. But, in the spirit of “fake it until you make it,” I created a 20-minute presentation mixing martial arts and motivation. For instance, I’d have one of my students attack me and I’d take away his balance by sweeping him to the floor. I’d then turn to the audience to describe the importance of balance in life. I was way out of my league, but they loved it. Allstate doubled my pay to $1,000 and booked six more seminars. More than the money, the confidence I gained from the experience was life changing. Had I not been willing to fake it I would have no chance to make it.

Part of my pay that day was a room at the downtown Hilton in St. Petersburg, Florida. This was the nicest hotel I’d even been in at the time.

Even though I lived just two miles away; I opted to spend the night at the Hilton. That evening, I sat in the lounge, creating list after list of new goals for myself.

The response to the seminar was so positive that it catapulted my confidence to new levels and I made these goals with a new sense of daring and ambition. This was a major emotional threshold in my life. Had I sat down a couple of days earlier to make a list of goals, they would have been far less ambitious than the list I made that night in the Hilton.
While you may not have yet had an experience such as speaking for a group of executives, what would be the equivalent for you in your life? Is there a short-term goal or accomplishment that you seek that would give you the same confidence boost? Here is a little technique that will help you to get that confidence boost right now. It’s meant to be done with your eyes closed and relaxed so read the next two paragraphs and then close your eyes and walk through the process.

I want you to name that goal or if the goal is really large, name the first step and then repeat this process for each step towards accomplishing that goal. For instance, if you want to change careers, you may want to start with taking a class or a seminar in the field you want to transition to. Second would be to get whatever license or certification that may be required. The third step might be to make the transition. Write these steps down or fix them in your mind right now.

Close your eyes and project your mind forward and imagine that you have accomplished that first step. What does that feel like? See yourself accomplishing your goal. Listen to the congratulations from your friends and family. I want you to feel it, see it, hear it, taste it, and smell the sweet smell of success for yourself. Drink it all in for a moment before moving on to the next step and the next step until you have accomplished your goal.
How does that feel? Pretty good I bet. This projection technique is a powerful way to motivate you and stimulate your sub-conscious mind. It attracts you to the activities required to accomplish the goal.

This works best when you isolate yourself for part of a day and surround yourself in an environment of wealth. The best place to do that for me is to do my goal setting in a nice hotel. When I did this that first night in the Hilton, I just felt rich by being around wealthier people. Mind you at the time, if you had $100 in the bank, you were richer than me, so it didn’t take much, but I think you get the idea.

The opulence of the surroundings convinced me that I would go to a nice hotel each year to do my goal setting. I’ve done this now in Dubai, London, Paris, Hawaii, Germany, Aspen, Grand Cayman and other fabulous locations and you can too.

Spend at least one day in a five star hotel reviewing this year and planning for the next. Even if you don’t stay at the hotel, do this in the lobby or lounge. The strategy is to surround yourself with privilege and an atmosphere of wealth to help you formulate your goals for the New Year.

Here some simple annual goals to set:((

1. Improve your net worth by 10%
2. Increase personal income by 20%((
3. Pay off all debt other than your mortgage
4. Pay off your mortgage (I’ve never had a mortgage last more than three years. My current home is worth nearly two-million dollars)

Another enjoyable goal projection technique is one of my favorites. On weekends realtors open houses to visitors. Go visit million dollar homes. I did this for years. I’d walk in and kind of pretend this was my house. I’d take a deep breath and smell the smell of a millionaire’s home. I’d imagine I was coming home from work and heading for the hot tub with a cool drink to relax and enjoy my surroundings.

Rich glossy magazines like the Robb Report are also ways you can visit fabulous homes without having to leave your own. The purpose of these goal projections exercises is to stimulate your sub-conscious mind to pull you in the direction that you want to go in. If you’ve never experienced wealth or set a goal and accomplished it, then it may be difficult to imagine yourself getting there. These techniques create an internal sensation that you are already there. Remember, the sub-conscious doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what is imagined. This is a step towards creating a new reality for your self.

A RealEstate System That is Right for You

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 7:36 pm

A realestate system is any system that is reliable and gets the real estate task done. Some people will create a better realestate system than others, however, the concept of making the process easier remains the same.

The general realestate system is imperative for any realtor or agent. A realestate system keeps the agent on track with workload and continually is updated. A good way to keep up with daily tasks is to have a planner that you carry with you at all times. In modern times, we often times use cells phones, also known as smart phones, to collect and store important data.

If you are an agent and struggling to create a realestate system that works, try researching online. There are many companies out there that offer systems that they have already made. Just like any system you could make, some realestate systems are better than others. There are a lot of scams out there and they are looking for people just like you. Do yourself a favor and research the company before you make any commitments to buy.

You may want to also think about furthering your education in the real estate industry. Sometimes wasted time can be attributed with the lack of knowledge someone has. If you are unsure of certain aspects of real estate, make it a point to really learn them. By learning these “problem areas”, you will know how to better handle situations. Moreover, you will come to a solution faster. This is due to the fact that you will not have to research them. Knowing more about the real estate industry will lead you to developing a good sense of overall accomplishment.

The main goal of a realestate system is to basically automate what you do on a daily basis. In other words, you will be working less time and earning the same amount or more. There are actually people out there that have been doing this for years. The more you use your brain, the less you will have to use your hands. With the extra free time, you can develop other ways to make your business successful, or, you can just spend it relaxing.

You will learn that delegation is a key concept when looking to spend less hours working in the week. A real estate agent is a very time consuming position and in most cases, does not leave time for much else in their lives. This is unfortunately a sad fact. Real estate agents are constantly looking for a realestate system that will work for them. These are the agents that recognize that doing less is really doing more. The more you automate your real estate business, the more you will get out of it. This includes time and money both.
