My Daughter is 13 months old. We are in the UK and it is HOT (for us anyway). We went in the pool this lunchtime for all of 10 minutes, she was smothered in water proof 50+ SPF and had a wide brim hat on, we also have an umbrella over the pool which kept it in the shade mostly. My question is, how on earth do you avoid the lotion going in their little eyes? I mean, even when applying it it is difficult to get full coverage of the face without getting it too near their eyes and I would hate for the soft skin under her eyes to burn or her eye lids. I thought I had achieved it – only when she got in the pool and splashed around, the lotion started to run as the water hit it and it all ran into her eyes, resulting in some serisouly red bloodshot eyes. I got her out and washed her face off with clean warm water, she had a drink and went down for a nap. They don’t seem to be irritating her but they look awful.
Any tips? Do I use a different lotion for the face? Does it matter if the lotion is scented? Do you find that the baby/infant sunscreen that is scented tends to make their eyes more sore? Or do I just do forehead and up into the hair line, nose, cheeks, mouth, chin etc and leave the section that would be covered by say sunglasses? I’m so confused, it’s never really hot here – certainly not hot enough for 50 SPF and now my baby looks like she has a terrible hangover, lol
Also, dumb question but with water proof suncreen do you have to wait a while for it to dry? Is that why it dripped when she went in the water? It doesn’t mention anything on the bottle about waiting.
