Can anyone recommend some good beach reading books particularily coming-of-age?

  • Posted on April 20, 2011 at 10:22 am

I just finished Elizabeth Berg’s “What we Keep” and I really liked it. I love coming-of-age fiction that follows the lives of people while they were kids or teens. Another one I loved was Martha Moody’s “Best Friends” and of course, Judy Blume’s “Summer Sisters”. I do like other genre too. I enjoyed the non-fiction novel “ComebacK” about a mother’s fight with her daughter’s drug addiction. “Mrs. Kimble” by Jennifer Haigh is another good one.
So that should give you an idea of what type of books I enjoy. I prefer to read modern novels at the beach that were written in the last 20 years or so. I don’t like books by Danielle Steele. I’m also not a big fan of mysteries (although I LOVE “The #1 Ladies Detective Agency series) or thrillers like Stephen King (although I love his movies).
If you have a suggestion or two, that would be great!!!!!
HAVE A GOOD SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like most of the books in Oprah’s “Book Club” if that helps! By the way, is she still doing the book club? I haven’t watched her in a long time.

The other woman finds him and confronts his wife sayin he raped her. the wife goes to her mother taking the daughter and the man goes out looking for more heroin. He soon works things out with his wife but becomes addicted to heroin. Eventually the wife finds out and leaves him for good. He’s so depressed he ends up overdosing in a alleyway, starts into convulsions and eventually dies. Right after he dies his phone rings and a picture pops up indicating its his wife. She leaves a voice mail saying that she will get him help and stand by him because her love is that strong for him.

Some potty training advice…and what book(s) do you recommend?

  • Posted on December 10, 2010 at 1:24 am

My daughter is 21 months old and I am starting to think about potty training. She is showing some of the signs that she is ready. She will hold herself when she is peeing (in her diaper), she has words for pee, poop, and potty. She will sit next to me on the step stool while I am going, and try to wipe for me haha. I haven’t gotten her a potty chair yet, just the seat that goes on top of the toilet and I don’t care for it too much. She pretty much goes #2 at the same time everyday and it’s well formed. She can communicate very clearly with me, she is able to say short sentences about three or four words long. It’s hard for me to tell how long her diaper stays dry for. Does it for sure depend on how much she has had to eat or drink?

Does it seem like she’s showing enough of the signs? Is there anything else she should for sure be doing before we get started? Also, what are the steps you took to get your child ready to potty train (ex. read books, introduce potty, buy pull-ups, buy underwear, etc.)? Did you go slow and do it little by little or go “all in” and potty train as quickly as possible to the finish? I would like to buy my daughter some books to get her ready for this new adventure. Which ones seemed to help your children the most? Or which ones did they seem most interested in?

I’m expecting baby #2 in December and I would really like to get baby #1 out of diapers soon!!!! :)

How often do you buy your child new things? (clothes, toys, books, ect..)?

My husband says Im addicted to buying our Daughter stuff! LOL

Every time I go out and about I usually always come back with a book, outfit, toy or something for her. He’s always saying “that’s why she’s spoiled” but I don’t even think that. Its just I enjoy buying things for her. She doesn’t even know what materialistic things are! Is it really going to “spoil” her buy Me buying her things often?
