My brother-in-law spray-painted my infant son?

  • Posted on September 26, 2010 at 1:18 am

So my husband’s brother has always been, for lack of a better word, pure trouble. So yesterday while I was at work he evidently showed up at my house with a case or three of beer and began binge drinking with my husband. The things is… my husband is a recovering alcoholic.

Anyway, one thing led to another and somehow my brother-in-law got a hold of some spray paint and began trashing the house. He spray painted the walls, the windows, the upstairs shower, my daughter’s car, and eventually began spray painting the nursery.

As if this wasn’t bad enough, during his drunken spray-painting rampage he ended up accidentally getting some spray-paint on my four-month-old son as he slept in his crib. He painted a significant portion of the back of my son’s neck and head.

Fortunately, the pediatrician said that my son is fine and won’t suffer any ill-effects. You wouldn’t even believe the story I had to come up with to explain the situation to the doctor. Despite the fact that my son is going to be fine, this is obviously not an acceptable situation.

I’d like nothing more than to press charges against my husband’s brother but my husband is doing his best to talk me out it. At the very least he should be banned from ever coming to our home again, right? My husband insists that I’m totally overreacting. How should I handle this situation?

My brother-in-law got my 12-year-old daughter drunk?

  • Posted on August 3, 2010 at 5:23 pm

So my wife’s brother lives about two blocks away from my family. We’ve always gotten along well and he’s always seemed like a stand-up guy and a great father. Anyway, last night my daughter went over to his house to play with her cousin who is about the same age as her.

It got late and my wife went over to his house to pick our daughter up, only to discover both girls surrounded by beer and liquor bottles and obviously intoxicated. My wife eventually found her brother passed out drunk in the backyard.

Anyway, she totally freaked out and brought both girls back to our house. When pressed, his daughter admitted that he not only supplies her with alcohol, but often forces her to drink to unconsciousness. What kind of monster would do this? I want to contact the authorities but my wife is holding me back.

What’s the proper course of action in these circumstances?

Thanks and God bless.
His wife died six months ago due to complications from diabetes.
