My Daughter has spent the last week in hospital with a combination of tonsillitis and a chest infection. Where she picked them up from is beyond me but needless to say, she has been very poorly with an exceptionally high temperature. We are home now and she is on slow-release antibiotics but her cough, which is dry and hacking, is absolutely choking her and making rest and sleep very difficult.
We have tried elevating the upper end of the cot and our own bed too as she often ends up with us and are trying to limit the use of her dummy as she sleeps because this tends to make her cough worse. The cough is probably worsened by the fact that her liquid intake is minimal at the moment due to her sore throat but I wondered if any of you had any ideas on how I can make her more comfortable? You and I would go out and drink every cough syrup off the shelf but obviously, that isn’t an option and the hospitals advice of ‘gentle back rubs’ isn’t very helpful in the middle of the night when actually all she wants to do is rest, not be moved or propped up for some vigorous rubbing.
Any tips?
