My 19 Month Old Daughter Has Been Severely Constipated For About A Month And A Half, What Should I Do?

  • Posted on August 17, 2010 at 11:24 am

Hello…
I Cannot Get Any Solid Answers.
I’ve Been To My Childs Primary Care Physician And To The Emergencey Room.
Nothing.
My 19 Month Old Daughter Has Been Severely Constipated For About The Last Month And A Half.
At First The Bowel Movements Were Few And Far Between And Of Normal Consistancy.
Then They Slowed Way Down, It Was Taking 30 Minutes Of Grunting And Pushing And Getting Red In The Face Just To Pass A Marble Sized Stool, Harder Than A Rock And Dryer Than Dust.
Now She Hasn’t Had Any Sort Of Bowel Movement, No Motions, At All, For About A Solid Week.
I Am Getting Worried.
She Hasn’t Started Acting Any Differently.
She Is Still Full Of Energy As Normal.
She Is Still Eating Normally.
She Has Had A Pretty Good Diet So Far, But I Just Altered It Since She Has Shown Signs Of Constipation.
She Has Been Drinking Nothing But Water, And Prune Juice.
She Has BEen Eating Alot Of Fresh Fruits And Veggies.
Alot Of Whole Grains And Fibre.
I Have Been Giving Her Prunes And She Loves Them, Maybe 6 Of Them A Day!
But Still Nothing Has Produced Any Kind Of BM.
I Took Her To Her Docter And They Did An X-Ray, They Said, “Oh Shes Really Constipated!”
Like I Didnt Know That.
They Told Me To Alter Her Diet, Which I Had Already, Not That It Was Bad TO Begin With.
They Said To Give Her Little Tummies Childrens Laxitive, And Glycerine Suppositories..
I Had Been Using The Combination For 4 Days Already, And Nothing.
I Told Them Everything And All They Said Was “Hmm, Keep Trying.”
So The Next Day I Took Her Into The Emergency Room BEcause She Has Struggled So HArd For About 30 Mins And Didnt Pass Anything.
They Did Another x-Ray And Told Me The SAme Thing.
Shes Really Constipated.
They Administered An Anal Suppository.
Her 3rd One Of The Day.
They Said She Should Have A Bowel Movement Within 24 Hours.
Nothing. It Has Been 72 Hours Since That Visit.
I Do Not KNow What Else To Do.
I Have Exhausted My Resources Here In Town With These Ignorant Doctors Who Do Not Listen To What I Tell Them.
And Now Im Wondering If You Have Any Advice For Me Now?
I Just Want TO KNow Based On Your Opinion, What You Think Is Wrong And What You Think I Should Do.
There Is A Childrens Hospital About 2 Hours Away From Me In Madera California, Childrens Hospital Central California.
They Do Have A Specialty Service In Gastroenterology.
Do You Think I Should Contact Them And Try To Get Her Seen There?
I Think It Is My Only Other Choice But I Dont KNow.
Because Her Doctor And The ER Both Said I Have NOthing To Worry About, But Quite Frankley, I Am Worried Sick Because A Month And A Half Is A LONG Time To Be Irregular.
So PLease Your Opinion Is Deeply Needed.
Specialist Or Just Another Trip To Her Doctor Again?
Thank YOu

My 4 1/2 month old daughter is constipated and I don’t know what to do to help her.?

My daughter has been constipated for over a month now. She is on good start doy formula and i also just started her on baby food. I have tried numerous things. She drinks water, tried juice, mirilax, and karo syrup and nothing is helping her. She strains and screams in pain everytime she goes or tries to go. A couple of times there has been some blood on the dry hard and crumbly chunks (Sorry if to much info) but it’s just from her straining so hard and having to push so hard to get it out. I know I’m not the only person out here who has dealt with this. If you have been through this or know of a SAFE way to help her please let me know. I have taken her to 3 different drs and they all say it’s nothing to worry about. I do worry though cause I know it shouldn’t hurt her so badly to go!!!!
I have used the suppositories and they help and make her go but it’s still really firm and painful for her.

My 21 month old daughter is constipated! HELP!?

When my daughter has to poop it is hard, dry, and often very very big. It brings her to tears to go and is quite an ordeal. It has been like this for about 6-7 months now and her doctor just says to give more juice and water (which she gets plenty of). Know of any home remedies for this since the doctor is no help?

**She only drinks about 12 oz of milk a day, and a ton of apple juice/orange juice.
**I do give suppositories but lets face it, nobody wants to have to do that every time their kid has to go to the bathroom. =)
