Can Self-Destruction Be A Reason Of Falling Victim To Alcoholism?

  • Posted on July 2, 2009 at 9:37 am

Man is progressing by leaps and bounds, but he cannot overcome the depression and different psychological problems that are increasing with the passage of time. Peace of mind is obsolete among many of us. Reasons are many but the problem is one. This problem often leads people to self-destruction that is most common in youth.

Students often want to get rid of their studies and other college and university related stress. They sometimes dodge their parents and tell lies in order to get some space from their daily boring routine life. This off and on dodging turns into a permanent habit that leads them to various socially unacceptable activities, which ultimately cause self-destruction.

What are those socially unacceptable activities that a student or any depressed person adopts? The most common habit is taking drugs. People indulge themselves into drugs and alcoholism, and start hiding the fact from the rest of the world. These things ultimately destroy their personality and ruin their present and future. Thus, it proves that alcoholism causes self-destruction, but is self-destruction also a cause of alcoholism.

When a person starts hating himself and people around him, he feels that it’s impossible to carry his burden anymore. Such kind of vicious ideas take him to another world where he seeks pleasure by harming his own self. That is actually a step towards self-destruction. This feeling actually make him to go for alcohol. Although he knows that alcoholism is injurious to his health but the same idea gives him pleasure and a strange feeling of satisfaction. Thus, self-destruction truly becomes a reason for a person’s falling victim to alcoholism.

Once you understand that self-destruction and alcoholism are doing no good to your life, only then you can think positively. At that moment, you should take some courageous steps and stop taking alcohol to destroy yourself.

If you have never thought of self-destruction or alcoholism, and now suddenly you are feeling very low and thinking about such things then take some time to release this stress. If you are a student, take a leave from school. Think about others who are also under the same situation and fighting with the same circumstances. People who struggle for their existence always win.

Common sign of self-destruction is eating disorder. If you are under stress, your hunger will be vanished and you will regain your normal appetite when you feel good from inside. In this situation you should discuss your problems with a friend or somebody who really cares for you. Lighten up yourself by telling your secrets to somebody; the things that are killing you.

Cuts and burns are also a type of self-destruction. People who turn to alcohol do so in order to release themselves from emotional stress and pain. However, many people around us choose alcoholism for the sake of fun. These fun lovers ultimately mess everything up and destroy themselves completely sooner or a bit later. This is absurd and totally unjustified.

What Are The Main Symptoms Of Depression ?

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 7:36 pm

Let’s face it. There is still a stigma attached to mental illness and depression is no exception. There is little understanding of the disorder in general although depression symptoms are well documented. But medically speaking, we are light years way from effective, safe treatment. Up to now the only conventional medication has been tricyclics and SSRIs which have all been associated with some nasty side effects and the most alarming fact of all is that nobody knows exactly how these medications work on our brains.

Before we consider alternatives, let us look at the main symptoms of depression. Manic depression is sometimes referred to as bipolar and the latter name reflects the two extremes of symptoms from euphoric (manic) to deep depression. These changes can be very sudden and disconcerting for those around the individual. The sufferer may be on a high for quite long periods and display great energy but also irritability, aggressive and violent behavior.

The main symptoms of depression from the mild to the moderate will be less dramatic but still worrying for those who are close to the depressed person. Depression is a state of deep melancholy and gradually the sufferer gets sucked into a deep black hole where gloom, pessimism and a sense of hopelessness, bleakness and helplessness become so persistent and pervasive that daily activities are affected and the person just cannot function. These feelings often lead to suicide because that is the only action or way out for the depressed person.

There is a notable loss of self esteem and there is no longer any pleasure in doing the things he or she always loved doing. There is a lack of energy , lethargy takes over and depressed people tend to sleep for much longer although lack of sleep or insomnia can also be present. Individuals will vary. There is a distinct lack of interest in the people and the world around them, indecision and eating disorders. When there is talk of ending it all and a lot of talk about death, this is another one of the main symptoms of depression.

The fact that more people are now suffering from depression symptoms but there is a lower percentage of people actively seeking help and treatment may be due to the FDA back box warnings on the medicines about suicides. This may well have put people off seeking medication but no medication is worse than some medication.

Medications may cause side effects which in turn may lead to even more depressed thoughts which seems a rather sadistic way of treating an illness in my view. I know that herbal depression treatment can restore balance and serenity to the troubled mind while improving mood and really alleviate the main symptoms of depression with very few or minor side effects. Why not find out more about this alternative?
