How To Prepare For A Flood Emergency

Believe it or not, floods are the natural disasters that is most common in America. According to statistics, more than a hundred people are killed by floods every year. Also, more than four billion dollars are the cost damages caused by floods.

All this is according to the Red Cross of the United States.

The following are few tips and advice you could do in order to prepare yourself for any flood inevitability.

Expect the expected

It is important that you clearly understand and that you are aware of any damages that a flood could cause. Some of these inevitabilities include boulders that are rolling, trees that are ripped right out from the ground, buildings that are destroyed as well as bridges, sliding debris.

Do not be afraid to ask

It is also vital that you ask around your local zoning and planning office as to whether the property you are on is below the level of the flood or above it. Also, it is always good to know if the area you are in has had a history of being flooded.

This knowledge helps a lot in the preparation of activities and tasks to do in case if a flood does hit.

Familiarize yourself

In your own community, it is best that you familiarize yourself in any or all of the warning signals or signs whenever a flood does occur.

Learn, learn, learn

Plugging all trap sewers you have in your house using check valves actually prevent any floodwater from going into the drains of your house. During emergencies, using large stoppers or corks is also a good idea to plug tubs and sinks.

Check and build

Checking with the local codes of buildings is a good idea as this will let you know whether it is okay to build walls for floods and to be used as barriers around your own house in order to prevent any floodwater from getting in your premises.

Waterproof it all

In order to protect walls of basements, seal them using waterproof compounds so that floodwaters would be unable to get in through any cracks.

Have a radio and some supplies

As much as possible, keep a radio that is operated by batteries if in case the power goes off.

Having supplies such as canned goods is a must as well as first aid kits. Do not forget a can opener of course.

Through pain there is always motivation. Getting bad grades in school shows you that you need to put your head down and study. Being in debt gives the motivation to find another source of income to help pay of the bills. Being humiliate gives us the strength to fight back and make sure we aren’t humiliated again. There are many other ways where motivation comes through but when we are faced with countless numbers of negativities and pain the world fires at us, how do we stay motivated during it? In this article I will give you a list ranging from A-Z of self improvement solutions that will give you the motivation you need.

A – Achieve your dreams.

It is possible to achieve your dreams. What you have to ask yourself is are you willing to work hard for them? They are not impossible to achieve, as Alexander the Great once said “Impossible is nothing to him who will try”. Believe in yourself and you will have no problem achieving your dream.

B – Believe in yourself

If you don’t believe in yourself who else will? If you believe you can do something then go straight ahead and do it.

C – Consider things on every angle and aspect.

Make sure you understand thins from both sides. There is always another side to the argument.

D – Don’t give up and don’t give in.

Giving up won’t help you and it won’t make you feel any better. Do you think the Einstein’s answer just fell into his lap? No he worked hard and was determined. “The pain of the moment is temporary but the pain of giving up can last a lifetime”.

E – Enjoy.

Enjoy your life! You will feel a lot better when you realise how great your life really .

F – Family and Friends

These people will be your bright light in times of darkness. They will guide you when you need help. Don’t lose them for they are a great source of motivation.

G – Give more than what is enough.

Put in extra effort. Doing the bare minimum won’t get you praised, by doing extra you get complimented which is bound to give you a boost in motivation.

H – Hang on to your dreams.

Just because someone says that your idea is rubbish doesn’t mean you give up on it. You keep it with you, you never know when it will come in handy.

I – Ignore those who try to destroy you.

Many people you know will be full of negativity and they will try to take any one down to feel the same way they do. Keep away from these people as they will do everything to break your motivation down

J – Just be yourself.

Don’t try pleasing everyone. It is a hard thing to do. Your real fiends will love you for who you are, not who you aren’t

K – keep trying no matter how hard life may seem.

There will be time when life seems to be hard and complicated but don’t let that bother you. Keep working hard and sooner or later you will break through to a much happier time.

L – Learn to love yourself.

If you love yourself then you will feel a lot happier than if you hated yourself.

M – Make things happen.

Don’t wait for a leader to come and push you. Do it yourself, Jump! You will be a lot happier with what you have achieved.

N – Never lie, cheat or steal.

Doing any of those could not only land you in trouble but doing these will make you feel bad soon enough and you will regret doing it (major motivation killer).

O – Open your eyes.

You need to learn to open your eyes. Don’t look at how things should be, look how you want things to be and work towards them

P – Practice makes perfect.

Practice will stop us from making the same mistakes, practice will give us the motivation we need to become better.

Q – Quitters never win. And winners never quit.

Do you want to win? I certainly do! Don’t quit, you never know how close you are to your objective if you quit.

R – Ready yourself.

Be prepared for anything that will come your way. Start and build yourself up before people knock you down. Remember it wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark, he prepared for it.

S – Stop procrastinating.

T – Take control of your life.

Your life is your life. Not someone else’s so don’t let yourself get pushed around

U – Understand others.

Understanding others will allow you to understand where they stand. If they are negative or positive.

V – Visualize it.

Visualize your dream, how great it would be. Good? Well get to it!

W – Want it more than anything.

Determination will get you everywhere. If you are applying for a job and you have all the right qualifications and the other candidate is determined to succeed who do you think will get the job? A man with determination is hard to stop.

X – X Factor is what will make you different from the others.

Not the T.V show but your X-factor; your unique skill. Whatever it may be. Your unique skill is something that makes you you.

Y – You are unique.

Again the same as above. You are unique no one in this world looks, acts, or talks like you. Value your life because people value you in theirs.

Z – Zero in on your dreams

And go for it!!!

THE SILENT HEALER…and first step to recovering from any life-altering losses

Grief is the normal and natural reaction to any major loss. Loss is a part of living and a great many of us are facing losses due to health and financial issues, deaths of family and friends, and painful relationship breakups, whether personal or in business.

We talk about the loss, but not many people want to hear what we’re really feeling. Grief, the emotions that result from loss, is one of the most off-limits topics of conversation. Yet loss is a part of living.

Unresolved grief from the death of a loved one, a painful breakup, loss of trust, loss of health, loss of a job, or any major loss can leave us depleted, depressed, and passionless.

Society, our family, and friends give us messages like don’t feel bad, replace the loss, keep busy, and with time you’ll feel better. But, these comments don’t help—they don’t get to the “heart” of the matter, and they aren’t true statements or solutions for someone who’s grieving. In fact, sometimes they downright hurt us more.

The truth is when we’re dealing with loss, either recent or long ago, we have a broken heart, not a broken head. We need to say what we’re feeling, and communicate the conflicted thoughts and emotions we might be harboring. We need someone who will really listen, not give us advice, not judge or try to make us feel better. The first step to healing a broken heart is to express our feelings.

So, what is the silent healer and the first step to recovering from life-altering loss?

• It takes no particular expertise, although with awareness and practice you can get really good at it.
• It’s not hard to do, except when you’re thinking about something else (which is most of the time!).
• We love it when someone gives it to us.
• I mentioned it in an earlier paragraph.

It’s listening. Listening—the gift we give to each other; listening—the healing power within each of us. It’s a natural part of our everyday communications. And the more we use it, become aware of it, and perfect it, the more power it has to make a difference in our life and work.

When we listen with a blank mind, no agenda, just focused listening, we can hear all of what a person is saying. We experience the message that goes beyond the words. We hear the feelings beneath what is spoken. When we have no other purpose than to truly understand, the truth can show up.

Listening without thinking, eliminates our judgmental thoughts. If the person speaking understands that the listener is not judging them, they feel safe to tell the truth. Try it out. Think of a person in your life that you can tell almost anything to. Isn’t part of the reason you feel that way because you don’t feel judged by them?

For those of us who want to help ourselves and others going through tough times, telling the truth about what we’re feeling to someone who knows how to listen, and listening to others’ expressions of truth about what they’re feeling, is the silent healer for ourselves and others—the secret first step to recovery. It is something we all can give to others and ask others to give to us.
