Fentanyl patch?

My daughter (19) is having bad knee pain and is going to have an operation to correct her malaligned knee caps. She has been taking 10 mg. vicodin almost daily for pain, about 3-4 tablets a day. Most of the time this is enough to keep her pain free. But once in awhile, maybe once a week, she has real extreme pain. I thought he’d just give her 8-10 tablets of percocet a month for the pain just when the Vicodin doesn’t work. He’s a pain specialist. But instead, he prescribes the Fentanyl patch, which is 100 times more potent than morphine, from what I read on the internet once we got home. Scary stuff and there’s been many reported accidental deaths due to the patch. Many take this if they have cancer pain! In her case, I think it shouldn’t have been prescribed. Now what do I do? Will the Doctor be insulted if I tell him it’s too strong and ask for something more mild? I just can’t let her take this. How can I tell her Doctor without making him feel I’m questioning his judgement? Thanks
