Starting Sippy Cup/Free Flowing vs Spill Proof?

  • Posted on December 15, 2010 at 1:25 pm

When starting a sippy, did you find it easier to go with the free flowing valve or spill proof, and why?

My thoughts are the free flowing may be easier for baby to get the concept, while spill proof prevents messes while baby is learning….any other thoughts/experiences?

Im asking because my daughter has just sort of been playing around with the spill proof for about 2 months, and she only chews on the spout rather than sucks to make the water come out. She drinks from it, nonetheless, but Im not sure if she is drinking on purpose and realizes she is making the water come out, or if she is just thinks its a leaky teether. Wondering if maybe she will get the concept of drinking from a sippy if it were more free flowing. (She only gets water from the sippy, so messes arent really an issue, it will dry) Thoughts? Thanks!

how can I keep breastmilk flowing when I have to pump and dump?

I have gallstones and pancreatitis and because of the medicine I am on and because I’m in the hospital (wireless net here thankfully), I cannot breastfeed my daughter. I have been pumping but it seems like everytime I get less and less milk. They have me on a clear liquid diet and I can’t drink mothers milk tea. What else can I do to ensure my milk wont completely dry up by the time I am off the medication?! I really want to be able to make sure my daughter is getting breastmilk again.
I’m not sure what the name of the medication they have me on is called but I was told the pain killer has been linked with sids so that is the main reason I am pumping and dumping and giving her formula.
I know I am on an antibiotic the bag says Zosyn.

I’ll ask the nurse or dr. next time they come in about the fenugreek stuff, if it’s a pill I doubt I’ll be able to take it because like I said I’m on an all liquids diet and I’ll be in the hospital til Saturday so I wouldn’t even be able to go out and look for it.
