Best Treatments For Panic Attack

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 10:12 pm

Panic attacks can strike out of the blue, and without any clear reason for the attack. One moment you are watching TV, cooking or even driving and in the next instant, you are hit by a barrage of uncomfortable physical symptoms and you are convinced that something terrible is about to happen to you. Left untreated, panic attacks will eventually lead to panic disorder.

If you suffer from anxiety or panic attacks but you don’t know about it, you can end up seeing numerous doctors, only to be told that you are perfectly fine and you are not given any help or information. This can lead to confusion and increases your fear of the “mysterious condition” that you are suffering from.

A full blown panic attack can lead to the following physical symptoms:

- Rapid heart pounding

- Muscles tension and pain

- Difficulty in breathing

- Headaches

- Cold sweats

- Dizziness

In addition, you will also feel the following “emotional symptoms”:

- Fear of dying

- Fear of going mad or crazy

- Feeling unreal, like you are out of your body

- Depersonalization, feeling unreal

Panic attack is a perfectly treatable condition and it possible to stop them without any medication. The best and most effective treatment for panic attacks is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is a method that seeks to modify or eliminate troublesome thought patterns that triggers your panic attack. In simpler terms, CBT helps you to look at your fears realistically; it changes your negative thoughts and feelings into positive ones.

CBT is split into 2 aspects, behavioral and exposure. The behavioral portion involves learning how to relax during periods of high anxiety – this can includes relaxation techniques and breathing exercises. For the exposure portion, if you have been avoiding a particular place or situation, you will be exposed to the feared situation and given the opportunity to learn how to cope with them.

For example, if a patient approaches a feared situation, he will be persuaded to stay – despite his rising anxiety. Thus, the patient will realize that frightening his feelings may be, he is not in any danger. Eventually, he will gradually overcome his fears as he knows that he is never in any real danger and there is nothing to be afraid of.

So what is your outcome?

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 9:05 pm

So what is your outcome? What do you want?

We hear this quite often, don’t we? But what usually happens when we hear this?

Well the most common response for people who don’t get their results would be:

“Well I don’t want ‘x’ to happen”,
“I don’t want to stay in debt”
“I don’t want to be ill anymore”

I hear this all too often when coaching people and it’s a big problem in why the person hasn’t got the result the way they want it. Even if people say “I want to be well again as I hate being ill all the time” just thinking this will be a hindrance to your success. Why?

Well in order to achieve your outcomes or goals in life, you have to be focused on the end outcome or goal. However sentences like “I don’t want to stay in debt” focus on debt! And whatever your mind focuses on with consistency you attract in your life, it continues to expect and even looks out for it!

Imagine that sentence for one moment “I don’t want to stay in debt”, when you think about that now, what happens in your mind?

You may make a picture of being in debt
You may associate the bad feelings of being in debt for life i.e. fear, anxiety and unhappiness.
You may hear the words we were taught such as “Money doesn’t grow on trees you know!”, “We can’t all have money!”

Your mind will delete the ‘don’t’ and just make up a picture of ‘Stay in debt’, your hypnotising yourself with that suggestion with “I stay in debt!”

Now if you have one or all or more of these thoughts over a period of time, it naturally causes consistent bad feelings, and guess what the more negative thoughts and feelings you have it will produce limiting beliefs such as ‘Your right money doesn’t grow on trees, I will be in debt for ever, I give up!”

Henry Ford once said “Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right”

This is so true. So what are you focusing on? Are you focusing on the lack of or the abundance of?

Now imagine if you will the thought “I am Healthy and Wealthy”

What happens? It’s a whole lot of new set of thoughts and feelings right?

You see a picture of you being healthy, and wealthy
That brings feelings of energy, security and happiness.
It may creates the words “I can, I will, I have”

Now even if in reality its not presently true, if you change your thoughts to be consistent like the above, it to will create new feelings, and over time will create strong empowering beliefs that will cause you mind and body to search for the answers and attract those people, relationships, health, wealth and happiness into your life.

What’s your outcome? And more importantly what’s your point of focus?

How to build self confidence in 3 easy steps

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 9:04 pm

Step 1. Take a deep breath. There is a lot of clutter in the brain right now and plenty of negative thoughts that are getting in the way of you thinking clearly. What you need now is mental focus, focus that you need to pierce through the clouds of doubt in your heads and then transport yourself to a place of peace where you can sort yourself out and think about the things in your life that matter to you. Breathing exercises allow you to focus on your mind and breathe in. By using breathing exercises, you are able to meditate in the same way that practitioner use to clear their own mind. One thing you need to understand about the state of mind is that people with low self esteem have plenty of things in their mind, things that are dragging them down to a level that is way beyond their potential.

Step 2. And this is one of the more important steps that you need to consider, and this step allows you to take stock of your strengths and weaknesses. What you need to do is to make a list of the strengths and weaknesses that you have within you. One of the things that is most important in making this list is that you cannot make this list on your own. You need to recruit the help of your loved ones and people that know you best to help you make this list. Once you are able to compare what you think of yourself with what people think are the best points about you, then you are able to see what the disparity is and how you can adjust it so that there is a compromise between the two. Some psychologists actually call this the feel good list and for good reason, this is a list that people use to remind themselves of how good they are and where their strengths lie.

Step 3. This is another facet of a list, and you need to put down a list of everything that you have achieved in your life and with each success, celebrate it in some small way. One of the most interesting things about this list is the ability to slowly elate the person and slowly build them the confidence and self esteem that they need. The building blocks of a person with high self esteem is positivity and in this case, you need all the positivity that you can get to launch yourself out of the doldrums of your life and stretch your potential like never before. With this list, you can slowly rebuild yourself with positive energy.

These are some of the things that you can use to rebuild your self esteem, and as you can see, these methods are pretty easy to do and you can do this in your own time and sometimes, in the comfort of your own home. Building your self esteem and confidence never was so easy.

How to get motivated and live your dream

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 9:04 pm

As a song once stated that Dreams can come true, how would you feel if you knew that you could turn your dreams into your reality.

In reading this I believe that you want to change your life for the better.

But

How can this be done?

By making the decision to do so, make this day be the first day of the rest of your life and this is done by making the decision and or choice to do so, and that is your first step.

What do you want out of your life?

What have you always dreamt of being, doing or having?

Get yourself a note book and write it down. Think about the above questions and be honest with yourself.

Put aside those negative thoughts of what you have thought about yourself and what other people have told you, because as of now they do not matter.

What makes you happy?

What gets you motivated?

Think about this question because at first it is not an easy question to answer so, be patient with yourself.

Write your answers into your note book and keep your note book in a safe place, where you can look at it regularly.

Put aside what happened yesterday because you can not change what happened yesterday.

Today is the day that you can change and influence so be thankful for today and be glad in your today.

What kind of life would you like to live?

Think of something that would get you up in the mornings, something that would get you motivated.

Visualize it, sit quietly and close your eyes and see the life that you want.

I collect pictures, pictures that I have taken and pictures from magazines and put them in a scrapbook or photo album. I call this my vision book, which I look at often, especially when the day is not going as good as I would like it to go. Eventually you will be able to visualize some of these pictures without physically looking at them. This is great when you can do this. I have done this in meetings and some really boring events. It makes you happy and that is nothing but being in a healthy space no matter where you are.

When collecting your pictures remember that there is no limit to what you want in your life and that you can have what ever you want, so remember this when collecting your pictures and writing your lists.

This is a quote that keeps me motivated “Society Predicts But You Determine Your Future”.

Put this up where you can see it regularly.

Do these simply tips daily and see the magic work in your life.
See yourself getting motivated to live your dream

I would love to know your progress on your journey, please leave me a comment.

The Telltale Signs of Depression

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 7:36 pm

It’s normal to feel down from time to time, but sometimes those feelings happen for no reason and won’t go away. Depression is more than just a short bout of the blues – it’s a condition that makes it hard to function and get through life. When you’re depressed, it’s easy to feel hopeless, but the right kind of treatment can help. However, you still need to understand the condition and determine what’s best for you. Let’s look at some of the signs of depression to help you discover whether or not it’s affecting your life.

Some of the signs of depression are having problems sleeping, or they sleep away most of the day. Tasks that used to be easy become difficult, and concentration can be tricky. Thoughts of helplessness and hopelessness are common, and many people have trouble controlling their negative thoughts. They may feel short tempered or irritable, or easily burst into tears. Lack of appetite and extreme over eating are also common. You may feel that life’s not worth living. These can all be depression signs.

Other signs of depression also manifests in the inability to enjoy things that used to be pleasant, a reduced sex drive, and significant changes in weight. If you lose or gain more than five percent of your body weight in a month, it’s considered significant. You may feel keyed up and agitated, or sluggish and slow. Making decisions, keeping track of things, and staying focused can be extremely difficult. You may feel strongly guilty or worthless, or overly criticize your errors and faults. Many people with depression signs find that small tasks take much longer or are very tiring.

Depressed teens and adolescents are often irritable, rather than sad, and may seem hostile. Unexplained pain is also common in depressed young people. Older adults are also likely to complain about physical symptoms, and may focus on them to the exclusion of the emotional signs. Poor health is extremely common in depressed older adults.

Women are twice as likely to be depressed as men, in part because of hormonal factors, but also possibly because of social factors. Women are more likely to overeat, gain weight, sleep too much and experience strong guilt, while depressed men are more likely to be aggressive, violent, reckless and to complain about lack of sleep or fatigue. Men are at a higher risk for suicide from depression than women.

So, if you have some of these signs of depression, what can you do? There are a number of options. Many people choose to see a professional about their depression, and this is a very good idea. However, you shouldn’t assume that being depressed or seeing someone for the problem means you have to take medication for it. Lifestyle changes, counseling, herbal remedies and many other methods are also available to help deal with depression, and for some people they work much better than conventional medication. Investigate all your options and find out what’s available, but make sure you do something!
