My 7 day old daughter has thrush on her bum. Its very raw and very sore for her. She screams at every nappy change, especially if she does wees while her nappy is off. I think it must sting like crazy. I use huggies nappies and i am just using warm water and a very soft cloth on her bottom, i also am not wiping, i just sort of dab it. I dry her bum afterwards and then i apply the cream my midwife prescribed for her. We started using the cream yesterday and she said to use it at every nappy change for 3 or 4 days, however its the end of day 2 (well we started using it yesterday afternoon) and i havnt noticed any change, it definately hasnt got any better yet. I give her as much time as i can without a nappy on but she is usually screaming and crying that its hard to settle her without her nappy on. I have stopped drinking orange juice and eating acidic foods to see if that helps. Also she is fully breastfed. So if anyone has any help that would be great
Oh.. its a diaper. We call them nappies. Im from one of those ‘weird’ countries that put a ‘u’ in everything too. Labour, honour, colour etc.

My father is an alcoholic. It gets pretty bad. A couple years back we just stopped talking to him all together, i moved away from him. We live in Montana and he lives in Georgia.
4 years ago, when i had my first daughter, he came to see her and it wasn’t good, he came drunk and it was just this disaster.

Now i just had another baby girl and he wants to come see her. I haven’t seen him in 4 years and my mother says his drinking has gotten worse.
Should I let him come?
I mean, they are his only grandchildren.
But are my children in danger?

I live in a very dry climate, in the summer the highest temperature gets up to 115 degrees. I just became a first time grandmother two weeks ago. My daughter and I went to his first checkup and she asked the nurse when she should start giving him water, the nurse told her not until 6 months which I thought was odd especially where we live and it is so easy to become dehydrated especially children. My grandson is 2 weeks old, when should my daughter give him water? I say he should be drinking it now since the weather is starting to get warmer.

CPS took my daughter from me because of the test result. I swear I’ve never touched cocaine before. The other sites I’ve been on say amoxicillin, liver disease, kidney disease, and diabetes can cause a false positive result. None of those apply to me. During my pregnancy I had 4 drug tests which came out negative. They won’t believe the no drug use theory. Somebody please help figure this out!! I would never endanger my child in this way. Isn’t there anything else that could create a false positive result?

I saw a question about dry skin on a newborn, and mine is similar.

My daughter is 10 days old, is breastfed, and I give her water to drink during the day as well. When she was born she had dry flaky looking skin on her hands and feet. I put baby lotion on her but with time the has gotten this in her trunk area, her neck, and her arms. Her skin does not feel dry though.

She had two showers in the Clinique (a private hospital) – one on the day she was born, and one the day after, and we put lotion on her both times. The only other shower she had was on the 31st and I used lotion on her then as well.

The areas are not red or anything like that, and as far as I can tell, they don’t bother her (she lets me rub her down with lotion without any complaint).

We live in a humid area (our house is sea front to the Mediterranean), but I do turn on the heater to keep the house from getting too cold for her.

I have two other children and neither one of them had this problem. Is there anything I can do that would help her? Last time I was in America (this past summer to visit my parents) I brought some bag balm back with me. Could I possibly use this on her or is it too strong?
mamaposs- She WAS overdue by 5 days!

My daughter is now 2 weeks old. The hospital gave her good start formula when she went to the NICU. Is good start (Gerber brand) just as good as other formula?

My daughter’s feet are purple when ever she wears socks. The socks aren’t tight or anything. But when she isn’t wearing socks her feet are normal colored but they are cold. I have onsies with feet but her feet still get cold. Is this normal?

My daughter drinks 6 ounces at a time already! Does anyone elses 2 week old drink that much? She only poops 2 times a day, is that normal? She does pee A LOT!

My daughter has really dry skin on her feet and hands. Lotion doesn’t seem to help. What else could I do to help it.

My daughter doesn’t always burp when I burp her. Even when she drinks a lot. Then she gets hiccups, and she’ll cry because she has hiccups. Is there anyway to get rid of them?

I would ask her doctor but he’s on vacation this week. This is my first baby and I’m a little paranoid about everything. Thanks!
Also about her feet being cold. I can wrap her in a blanket but she insists on her arms being out of the blankets and she kickes herself out of it, even when I swaddle her. So blankets don’t work very well.
She eats her 6 oz fine. She doesn’t spit it up.

I burp her all kinds of ways. On my shoulder, sitting on my lap, laying her on my lap. But she doesn’t always burp. I can burp her for 30 min or so with no burp.

She does have some gas, I think its a lot. But my mom and grandma say its normal.
I am 16. I wanted to say this because a lot of people were saying I sound like a good mom (thank you for that) and when I was pregnant I asked a question on her and got mean answers because I was 16.

The rash is probably from the diarhea and so you should make sure to slather her with A&D or Desitin or something so urine and poops don’t touch her skin. I’m not human being rude, but you will need to call…

A couple of years ago I needed some tips for relieving newborn constipation when my niece asked me to keep her infant daughter while she returned to work. I never had any children so her mother had to tell me what to do when the baby was constipated.

Since then I’ve asked some mothers how they dealt with newborn constipation. I learned that one of the reasons for infant constipation is the iron contained in infant formula; some babies don’t need the additional iron. Some babies have allergies, usually to formula, which can cause constipation, although one woman shared that her son was actually allergic to the water she was using to mix his formula with.

In no particular order, here are some of the best tips for relieving newborn constipation:

Fruit Juice

Diluted apple or prune juice is one of the more popular methods for relieving infant constipation that I heard. However, it shouldn’t be used for infants under 3-4 months, and should always be diluted. The acid content of some fruit juices can contribute to diaper rash unless diluted with water.

Karo Syrup

Another of the more common cures for newborn constipation is Karo corn syrup. Some used the light or dark corn syrup, while others insisted that only the light corn syrup should be used. Mix 1-3 tablespoons of the syrup in a bottle of warm water. NOTE: Since corn syrup has been linked to obesity, you may want to limit its use.

Applesauce

Once the baby is taking baby food, applesauce will usually keep them regular, and they also enjoy the flavor. If the baby is too young for baby food, try mixing a little applesauce with rice cereal and diluting it so it can be drunk out of a bottle.

Oatmeal

One woman found that her baby’s constipation would be eased when she fed him formula to which oatmeal baby cereal had been added.

Massage

Massage can be accomplished in two different ways. The first is to use
a bit of baby lotion and use the tips of your fingers to gently massage the belly and lower abdomen. The second method is to bend the baby’s legs so the knees press gently against the belly. This can be done with both legs together or one at a time in a “cycling” motion.

Glycerin suppositories

Glycerin suppositories will work when all other methods have failed. That is actually what my niece had me use on her daughter. The suppository would be gently inserted into the rectum, then her legs would be “bicycled” placing light pressure on the lower belly. Usually within a matter of one or two minutes she would have a bowel movement.

One of the most important tips for relieving newborn constipation was the necessity of seeking medical attention should home remedies fail to work. There may be something more going on and failure to get medical help could result in long-term problems.
