lower back pain shooting down right leg?

  • Posted on August 29, 2010 at 9:21 am

I was building a snowman with my daughter yesterday and I did something to my lower back. The pain is so bad and I have tried all OTC pain meds that I could think of, I even took 500mg of neoproxin that I had from another back injury, I also have Percocet from another back injury but it makes me throw up sometimes so I really don’t want to take the chance, since I am a stay at home mom. The pain is in my lower back and it sends like sharp electric feeling shocks of pain that go from my lower pain down my right leg, I have no other way of trying to explain it. Should I go and have it looked at and does anyone have any ideas for the pain?

denied pain meds and in chronic pain! HELP!!!?

  • Posted on August 18, 2010 at 9:20 am

I was in a MVA 6 months ago and was instantly prescribed Vicodin from my PCP, however, these stopped working after about a month and PCP placed me on Percocet 5mg, x’s 8 a day… I was on these for 5 months being still in chronic pain. I had a MRI that showed a bulging disc and slight arthritis in lwr. back (probably from previous accident) and scoliosis. PCP stated that most people live every day w/a bulging disc and I have to live with it.. He cut me down to 2 Percocet a day, as I told him that the AM is the worst for me. When it was time to refill the script for the Percocet x’s 2 a day, they told me that he would not refill it and that I had to come in for appt. to talk about the pain killers.. I was then placed on Darvocet 100mg 1 a day in AM and this has not worked at all!! I live in chronic pain everyday and this has compromised everyhing I can do. I cannot play w/my daughter like I used to and cannot even do simple chores w/out excruciating pain. Please help w/any advice!!
I have been on methadone, made me too tired and out of it, placed on Neurontin for nerve pain, thinking it was Fibromyalgia, not helping, take Ibuprofen 800mg, doesnt help, Naproxen 500mg, no help, has steroid injection, no help… cannot get referral for Pain clinic, am trying to switch PCP’s as he is no help, he did a drug test on me w/out telling me, and to no surprise, came out NEGATIVE for all except narcotics (perc’s) I walk everyday, feel good while walking, however, when I am done,.(can only walk around my smallest block 10 min.)I am in more pain then I started with…. I am waiting for physical therapy and have my fiance massage me everyday from head to toe and that helps for the time being, however, still in pain after… I am in pain when I am awake and when I sleep and take AMBIEN but I am still aware of the pain when I sleep..
I fear that my Dr. thinks I am a drug seeker or that I am not really in pain…even though he found that I am not a drug user…. PLEASE HELP!!
I am at my wits end and feel that if I have to continue to be in this much i would rather die than continue to live this way
I have made appt.w/ pain clinic to deal with this pain, however, it is a week away and the pain is not any better w/ all the meds that i am on (no opiates) I recv’d my medical records and found that all my doctor wrote in there, HE NEVER TOLD ME!! I think that because he was getting paid, he used all my insurance money from the accident and now I have to pay for these appts out of my settlement which sucks!!!I am in the process of looking for new PCP as I do not want narcotics to be the answer due to addiction, however, I need them for now until I I see the correct dr’s….

Question about pain meds and pregnancy…?

  • Posted on August 15, 2010 at 3:21 pm

So, I’m 35 weeks & 1 day pregnant and was hospitalized on July 24th because I had such bad pain in my right side and my back, I was having hot flashes and throwing up. After finding a very large amount of blood in my urine and an ultrasound, my doc diagnosed me with having kidney stones. From what they could see, I had 3. They gave me a shot of demerol in my hip, started started me on percocet every 3 hours, and kept me overnight. Well, 5 days later the pain started up again. I couldn’t even keep my own spit down (sorry. I know that’s gross). They re admitted me and started me on morphine. That night, I finally passed one of the stones (it was a big one!). They sent me home the next morning with a prescription for more percocet because I have more stones, and they can’t intervene until my daughter is born because it could put me into labor being this far along.

My question is, can so much medication being used for more than a couple of days have any kind of effect on my unborn child? I’d like to think the doctors wouldn’t do anything that might harm her. But then again, maybe the pro’s just outweighed the risks. Any GOOD answers from people who actually know what they are talking about would be greatly appreciated. And please don’t tell me that my doctor knows what they are doing, and I shouldn’t be asking answers.

pain management?

  • Posted on August 11, 2010 at 11:20 pm

had a motorcycle accident last April – fractured wrist/leg/etc….developed premature arthritis from muscle tissue healing around fractures from accident and impact to body – my body has been working overtime using other parts to compensate for disabled parts – diagnoised with 40% loss of function in hand/wrist, since then, pain has been unbearable at times. Working with docs on pain meds – now on Naproxen twice a day and Percocet twice a day – it’s working, but personally i’m concerned because it’s the only way to function – would this be considered an addiction???? or a lifelong pain management step in a better direction. Without any meds, I can’t move, stiff, sore, cry in pain – I’m 38 yrs old, was extremely active before the accident, work full time, one daughter, one husband, 3 acres of land to care for – full time all around care giver. Any suggestions or alternatives? or stick to what works for now????
went through intensive physical therapy, no improvement, have a counselor to handle the emotional strain. Saw a chiropractor (lots of smoke and mirrors for me – pain intensified after a few visits)

Breastfeeding and pain medicine?

  • Posted on August 8, 2010 at 7:20 am

I just wanted some advice from other moms who have taken pain medicine while nursing. I pulled a muscle in my back and was perscribed percocet. Doctor said it was safe for my son who is breastfed. I still worry though. One time when i was nursing my older daughter i was perscribed a medicine for my gallbladder that the doctor said was safe and i later found out it would have been very toxic to daughter if i would have taken it. So i’m a little nervous to take this, anyone else taken it while nursing and did it affect your baby?

Any good pain relief out there for severe endometriosis?

  • Posted on August 3, 2010 at 5:20 pm

My 28 year old daughter has endometriosis. When she does have a period, (she’s on the pill that’s supposed to stop your periods altogether.)she is doubled over in pain, and can barely function. The only thing her Dr. will give her is Motrin 800mg. The only thing that works is a narcotic pain killer like Lortab, or Percocet, which of course they won’t give her, because Dr.s have been scared by the government in to not prescribing narcotic pain relief even for severe pain, which is utterly rediculous, because not eveybody becomes an addict. (another subject altogether) She is also exibiting signs of fibromyalgia, which I also have, and I end up giving her my pain meds, which I don’t get many of, so she can function.

Help me please….

Does the pain of losing my husband and soulmate of 28 years ever get easier?

  • Posted on July 28, 2010 at 5:20 pm

18 days ago my husband(48years)passed away from heart failure but he also had severe back pain and was on painkillers for 6 years now and it got so severe that he would take a pill and forget then take another one..Yes,i did watch over him..but he got addicted and he would keep secrets from me and lie to me ..as i have been finding out since his death..there was a whole other person in him and then the guy i knew and loved..i miss him soo much and will love him always and forever..at the first stages of our relationship,he was a alcoholic and abusive to me but when i was pregnant with our second daughter he quit drinking and that was 20 years ago.He had a few slip ups but then he hurt his back at work and was never the same once the doctor perscribed him at first it was percocet, then percodan.oxycotin and fenantyl patches..this was his problem he could easily get them off the doctor or buy them on the streets.I know he loved us i just need to know if the pain in my heart will get better and how do i go about believing ..i am only 49 years old and i can’t think of a life without him as we were together the last six years ..we were joined at the hip some people would say.??What to do with me now?
