Cold relief for my 6-month-old?

  • Posted on January 19, 2011 at 9:25 am

Apart from giving calpol (plus steam and olbas oil/snuffle babe ointment), is there anything I can do for my snuffly daughter? She had a high fever on friday (39c), took her to the GP where they diagnosed her with, shockingly, a cold (they didn’t think she was all the sick since she was smiling and laughing at them, but that’s just her). They recommended calpol and saline nasal drops (which I do, but she screams bloody murder and tries to swat my hand away), and the fever hasn’t returned. However, the snuffles haven’t gotten better- if anything, they’ve gotten worse. She now has a dry cough and the constant runny nose has chapped the skin around her nose (despite vaseline). She’s not drinking all that well, and refuses to take any solid food. Is there anything I can do? Apart from being a bit miserable and having a decreased appetite, she still manages to play and roll around, so I don’t think it’s terribly serious, I just want to help her feel better. Any suggestions?

Is there any relief OTHER then surgery for a herniated disc in lower back?

  • Posted on September 9, 2010 at 9:21 am

I’m sure you’ve all heard the “ouch my back” complaint from someone before.
Well – I sure hope you never rolled you eyes because life has a way of paying you back.
I never believed in the severity of back pain UNTIL this past July when I fell carrying my 10 months old daughter on our Friends wet deck.
I landed on my right hip and apparently herniated my L4 L5 disc.
I have been in AGONY every since.
My family doctor doesn’t seem to believe me or something…as she just tells me to relax and take it easy. I go for acupuncture and they say – don’t exercise, I go to pyshio and they say do exercise, I go to the chiro and he says exercise moderately only.
I’m being told so many different things.
I spent all day at emerg last week and they gave me Oxycontin. How ANYONE can take that stuff is beyond me. I started hallucinating, or though i was.
I am going for a cortisone shot in 2 weeks and have been told my only other option in surgery. Please share your pain management secrets with me.
I have a 16 month old I can’t pick up….a husband I can’t be intimate with, a house I can’t clean and a job I can;t do!
Someone please help me! I don’t want surgery!

Any good pain relief out there for severe endometriosis?

  • Posted on August 3, 2010 at 5:20 pm

My 28 year old daughter has endometriosis. When she does have a period, (she’s on the pill that’s supposed to stop your periods altogether.)she is doubled over in pain, and can barely function. The only thing her Dr. will give her is Motrin 800mg. The only thing that works is a narcotic pain killer like Lortab, or Percocet, which of course they won’t give her, because Dr.s have been scared by the government in to not prescribing narcotic pain relief even for severe pain, which is utterly rediculous, because not eveybody becomes an addict. (another subject altogether) She is also exibiting signs of fibromyalgia, which I also have, and I end up giving her my pain meds, which I don’t get many of, so she can function.

Help me please….
