Daughter’s school bus driver is dangerous/weird. School won’t do anything. HELP!?!?

  • Posted on January 17, 2011 at 1:22 pm

Hi, our elem school-aged daughter’s school bus driver is very weird. She does things like hums all throughout the trip to the school, gives the kids racist nicknames (our daughter is of Latin American heritage and she calls her Dora, and she calls another taller black boy Little Shaq), and is often 5-6 minutes late picking up our daughter from the stop. She is dangerous b/c she drinks coffee … WHILE DRIVING THE BUS! Do you really need yoru Starbucks so bad you cannot wait until after you’re done with yoru shift?
I talked to her about her behavior, and she just smiled and said “Well, I’ll do my best”. I also talked to the principal and vice-principal, and they said they will look into it but NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

What should I do about what is happening to my daughter at school?

  • Posted on January 15, 2011 at 12:20 am

I took my daughter out of Catholic school due to issues with the teacher, inconsistent discipline, and not having enough variety (she is a GATE student). The 6th, 7th, and 8th graders all had the same three teachers for the same subjects, so there was no way to change teachers.

I feel like I have made the worse mistake. She has showed me the profiles of her friends and acquainteneces on MySpace, and I am just appalled by the things on their profiles. For 12, 13, and 14 year olds, I think it is horrible – pictures of drinking, smoking, one girl smoking from a meth pipe, pictures of two girls making out, two guys practically (or maybe) having sex, vulgarity, mean bulletins, rude comments, etc. I do not want her to be friends with these type of people. She had already told me she stopped hanging out with some of them when she found out the things they do.

Now, they are bullying her and starting rumors that she is a lesbian. She is miserable. What should I do?

My sister is in trouble with her high school?

  • Posted on December 24, 2010 at 5:22 pm

My sister is a minor and her boyfriend was caught with drinking and driving. She was not drinking and the school wants to get involved because they heard a rumor that she was drinking. However, the police tested my sister for drinking and it turned out negative. A parent called the school because her daughter does not like my sister. The school forced her to confess that she was drinking. Could the school be held for slander or be sued for false accusations? The police report does not have my sister in any of the report.

Desperately in need of an excuse to a parent to miss school.?

  • Posted on October 11, 2010 at 9:19 pm

Please answer quickly, I need these answers by atleast 5:45am!

I normally don’t miss school. Im usually just late because I miss the bus or something. I haven’t even missed school all year actually. But I have issues with procastination.. its really becoming quite a problem. I’m going to talk to my guidance counselor next week because (im a freshman in high school now) i’ve had it since like 5th grade and it just seems to be escalating. it affects my grades.. i mean i could have had a 97-98 in 2 classes but because of procastination i got a 94 and an 88.

but please don’t answer that. I have to miss because I have 2 big projects, one that is already late, and another due today that I totally didn’t do. I have school in 2 hours from now and I wasted all of yesterday and I even woke up at 2am to do hw but once again i procastinate so nothing is done. and then i also dont have my math homework done so im just screwed all over and because this is Friday it would be perfect to go back to normal again over the weekend. other than that we arent doing anything big in class so im not too worried about that.

please i need excuses! i have no idea what to do. im really tired since i’ve been sleeping for 4-5 hours and not getting much done all week. but i’ve slept in before and it just pisses my mom off and she eventually drives me back to school. so i cant do that. i guess i could fake a headache or stomachache but idk how to do that right. i just had my period so unfortunately i cant do that either.

HELP! for a worthy cause. im not sure if i should just tell her the truth. she’d probs get pretty mad at me.. she knows i procastinate but idk if she’d want me to go to school and face the consequences or want to help her daughter not fail in school! ughhhh.

Its so annoying how i procastinate. like theres so much to do online. when i come back from school im stressed and usually tired from not sleeping much so I either fall asleep and wake up early and not do much, or I release stress by binge eating, watching tv, and going online. its horrible and is really starting to affect my life and i hate it. i’ve gotten a packet on how to manage time better but it didnt do squat. i suck at doing schedules like “do this from 7-8pm” too

What are you reading this summer? Do you have summer reading by choice or part of a school program?

  • Posted on September 23, 2010 at 4:32 pm

I find that during the year I read A Christmas Carol at Christmas time and The Great Gatsby in the summer. Though this is not officially the summer yet, I feel in May with the temperatures teasing me in the 70s and 80s, I feel previews to the summer already.
…My father gave me some advise …
“Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone,” he told me. “just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.”
…In consequence, I’m inclined to reserve all judgments.
To me, The Great Gatsby is not just a good story, it is a work of art. It was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, a man who struggled with alcoholism and personal tragedy and somehow managed to produce this great piece of writing that in some instances reflects his own struggles and unhappiness.
He grew up in the mid west. He served in World War Two and met the love of his life in the south while stationed there before going overseas. After the war, he went to New York to make his fortune. He wrote a book This Side of Paradise and became not only rich but famous. He married his sweetheart and they traveled among the rich and famous of the times. They moved to Europe and she had an affair. He was struggling to write a novel that would later become Gatsby but continued to write lesser pieces of writing to support his lifestyle hampered by a free spending upper class wife and alcoholism. She named her unborn child after him expecting a son. Instead she had a daughter and nicknamed her Scotty after the child’s father. She suffered a nervous breakdown and …
I can add more if there is any interest.
@ Jamie- that is a great list. Wow! I have read or own several of those books. Terrific books. I have seen the movie “Lolita” but never read the book. I think that Stanely Kubrick took some poetic license with adapting Lolita for the movie. Some of it was forced upon him by the censors. For instance, the daughter was underage in the
