How often do you do your shopping at the great wal-mart?

Walmart Doctor

One day, in line at the company cafeteria, Joe says to Gary behind him, “My elbow hurts like hell. I guess I’d better see a doctor.”

“Listen, you don’t have to spend that kind of money,” Gary replies

“There’s a diagnostic computer down at WalMart. Just give it a urine sample and the computer will tell you what’s wrong and what to do about it.

It takes ten seconds and costs ten dollars – A lot cheaper than a doctor.”

So, Joe deposits a urine sample in a small jar and takes it to WalMart.

He deposits ten dollars and the computer lights up and asks for the urine sample.. He pours the sample into the slot and waits.

Ten seconds later, the computer ejects a printout:

“You have tennis elbow. Soak your arm in warm water and avoid heavy activity. It will improve in two weeks. Thank you for shopping @ Wal-Mart..”

That evening, while thinking how amazing this new technology was, Joe began wondering if the computer could be fooled.

He mixed some tap water, a stool sample from his dog, urine samples from his wife and daughter, and a sperm sample from himself for good measure.
Joe hurries back to Wal-Mart, eager to check the results.. He deposits ten dollars, pours in his concoction, and awaits the results .

The computer prints the following:

1. Your tap water is too hard. Get a water softener (Aisle 9)
2. Your dog has ringworm. Bathe him with anti-fungal shampoo. (Aisle 7)
3. Your daughter has a cocaine habit. Get her into rehab.
4. Your wife is pregnant. Twins. They aren’t yours. Get a lawyer.
5. If you don’t stop playing with yourself, your elbow will never get better!

Thank you for shopping @ Walmart

Inspired by a great contact.
Thanks Kitty2

Does my 19 year old daughter need to seek therapy about her complusive shopping?

  • Posted on February 16, 2011 at 10:21 am

She has her own job and currently is the owner of a debit card. She spends like its going out of style. there is NO need for her to be buying 40 dollar bras, 60 dollar jeans, 300 dollar handbags, and fishing out 26 dollars for mascara, 14 dollars for eyeliner, and 14 dollars for lipgloss. that is completely uncalled for. So I just told her to hand me over her wallet, and i took her debit card Apparently she cannot control her shopping urges, so i’m doing it for her. She calls it retail therapy. i call it an ADDICTION that needs to be medicated. I told her she will not step FOOT into a shopping mall for 3-4 months. and she will also not be allowed to buy anything. She has enough clothes in her room to last her a lifetime i’m sure, what’s the need for more. I caught her in her room crying.

Parents: Do you have a clothes shopping addiction for your kids?

  • Posted on February 6, 2011 at 7:21 am

Am I the only one with this problem? Every time I go to the mall for something I actually need I always end up seeing something that would look nice on my daughters or my son. I buy it, I can’t resist. Then I feel bad so I go out and buy one more thing for every child (I have 4). I mean I don’t spend a drastic amount of money, and frankly my hubby doesn’t really mind, but I was wondering if any other mums are like this?

Musical Instruments Shopping Spree

  • Posted on January 11, 2010 at 7:24 am

With each new school year, parents begin a yearly ritual by going on a musical instruments shopping spree with their children. These shopping sprees may last one day, or they may go on for weeks on end with no end in sight. Parents are usually caught unaware by the notice they get about their child’s school curriculum change. The child may not be very happy about being in the school band, but in retrospect, thinks it’s a better alternative than taking a gym class.

On a musical instruments shopping spree, mother’s grab their children and head off to every music store in town, and check every newspaper ad looking for a musical instrument their child could use during the school year that they would be well-suited for. The musical instrument would not have to be brand new either. So, consulting the list of suitable instruments that the school gave her to use as a guide, she continues on with her musical instruments shopping spree.

The musical instruments shopping spree took her clear across town in the middle of rush hour traffic. By the time she entered a music store recommended to her by a friend, she was frazzled. The selection of instruments that matched her list were quite expensive, but there were several that qualified for a student rental program. She made a note of that offering, and continued to another location to check prices.

The next stop on her musical instruments shopping spree, landed her in a resale shop that had two instruments in the front window. Weathered by the sun, the cases looked a bit dry, but the price on the instrument, a flute, was within her price range. They did not have anything that her daughter wanted to play. She cleared the purchase with her son, who did not have a problem with playing the flute in the school band. His viewpoint was that he would be able to at least sit down during every concert. She made the purchase and scratched one shopping item off her list.

She asked her daughter what instrument she wanted to play. Her daughter wanted to play a guitar, or maybe some drums. Her mother suggested that she try a clarinet, and the girl balked at that idea entirely. Her mother stressed that she could try the piano but that would require lessons. Lessons would take away from her social life and that idea was not appealing in the least. The musical instruments shopping spree proceeded to the nearest pawn shop.

There was a set of electronic drums in the middle aisle that showed promise. The price of this set of drums was a bit steep, and the women decided she would try and get them to lower the price. She noticed that there was a cleaning set for a flute in the display case, which included a carry case for a flute. That price was quite reasonable, and when she offered to buy both items, the salesman promptly offered her a $25.00 discount on the drum set. Feeling that she had made a wise purchase the mother helped her daughter carry her drum set to the car.

How To Deal With Consumer Motivation Research

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 7:56 pm

Consumer motivation research is all about understanding the most important aspect of a business – the customer. Studying consumer motivation helps businesses and organizations develop marketing strategies that work. Simply put, consumer motivation refers to the needs or desires of a consumer that drives their purchasing behavior. In studying consumer motivation, one needs to look at the following aspects:

- The consumer’s psychology that deals with their thoughts and feelings that affect how they choose among different products and brands.
- The customer’s surrounding environment that may influence purchasing decision such as family or the media.
- The consumer’s behavior during actual shopping or deciding on a purchase

Aside from the above, a complete study of consumer motivation should take into consideration the fact that consumers value some products as more important than others or they find some products interesting, and others not. This is important because consumer motivation would of course vary depending on whether the consumer regards the product as important or interesting. How they select products would also differ if they were to choose a product that is important to them than something that they care less about.

It is not only the business world that can benefit from studies on consumer motivation. It can also be useful in creating social awareness campaigns and delivering messages to the public effectively.

There are several methods used to research consumer motivation. The two basic categories are primary research, which is an original study conducted specifically for a business or company either by an in-house team or a third-party research group, and secondary research, which is existing research conducted by another group such as the US Census.

Some of the methods used in consumer motivation research include surveys for gathering specific data; focus groups where discussion leads to the discovery of customer concerns; personal interviews that allow in-depth understanding of consumer motivation and experiment tests, which is used to prove that there is only a single explanation for a specific observation.

Take note, however, that the choice of words used in a survey can influence the respondent’s answer or the list of answers is limited so the response is not that accurate. Interviews are also highly vulnerable to creating a bias in the respondent not to mention conducting such sessions is quite expensive. High cost is also true for focus groups. In this method also, the so-called “social desirability bias” can affect the response of participants who instead of giving their honest opinion may only be saying what they think will impress the group or make them likeable. With experiments, the environment is highly controlled and the result of the study may not accurately reflect the behavior of consumers when they are in their natural surroundings.

As you can see, all the research methods have their own advantages as well as disadvantages so choose the suitable method based on the needs of the customer motivation research.
