5 Relaxation Tips for Parents

Letting Go
In our stressful world, it is important to develop an ability to let things go easily. This is vital for our mental and spiritual health. Try to find moment in the day or at the end of the day, where you can let go and release everything that has happened. This is especially important to do before bedtime. You may like to fill an imaginary balloon with any stresses and anxieties and let it go, or try throwing unwanted thoughts and feelings and watch them disappear or float away. Use your imagination, be creative and make this an enjoyable experience for yourself.

Eat Slowly
When we are rushing from one activity to another, it is easy to forget to look after ourselves and just eat on the go. If you can, try to sit down to eat and eat as slowly as possible – enjoying every mouthful. Your body will thank you for this and you will feel the benefits of deep relaxation. If you can, bless your food or say a short prayer for a few moments. This may sound strange, but there have been studies that our thoughts and intentions can have a profound effect on our food.

Smile
Even if you don’t feel like it – smile. Watch as this little facial expression can make a difference to your mood. For a deep relaxation, try this Buddist exercise of tummy smiling. Imagine you are smiling from the depths of your stomach. As you practise this, you will find that you instantly feel more relaxed and content.

Take a Break
If you are able to stop during the day, schedule a short 5-10 minutes break for yourself. This will help you feel more calm and in control. Use these few minutes to experience deep inner calm and silence. Just allow your thoughts to slow down, let go of the tension in your neck and shoulders and imagine you are being showered by drops of peace and a bubble. If you have time, kick off your shoes and socks and walk on the grass outside. As you build up a practise of this, you will notice how you can be refreshed and rejuvenated in just a short time.

Stop and Breathe
Stop for a few moments and let your mind become still. Take in a deep breath and breathe in a feeling of peace. As you breathe out, breathe out peace into the room. Close your eyes and give yourself a 30 second face massage. End with a brisk rub of the ears for a fantastic rejuvenator.

Practice Meditation
Sit or lie down and let your mind drift away with this meditation.

Close your eyes, be very still and imagine you are lying down on the beach. Feel the warm sand underneath your body. You can hear the waves of the sea.
Now, very gently you are going to relax each part of your body. Start with your feet, let your toes completely relax and become soft. Now release all the tension in your ankles and let your legs become soft and heavy. Relax the muscles in your tummy and back, feel your back sinking into the soft golden sand. Let your shoulders and neck become soft and heavy as all the tension melts away. Your arms feel heavy as they sink deeply into the warm sand. And now let your head completely relax. Relax your eyes, your ears, your cheeks, your jaw, your forehead. Become completely still and relaxed. Feel the warm sun on your face and body as you sink further into the lovely soft sand.
Enjoy this wonderful feeling of being calm and peaceful. Stay there for a few more moments, enjoying the feeling of being completely relaxed. Extract from The Wishing Star and Nature CD

Headaches: The Great Productivity Killer

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 10:12 pm

Headaches are one of the greatest productivity killers. When you’re trying to get something done and a headache comes on, it’s game over. Even if you try to make it through, you’re not going to be nearly as productive and you’re likely going to be more miserable than ever. While it’s no fun, there are some natural and simple methods to cure your headache!

The Quick and Natural Way to Cure Headaches

The idea behind relieving a headache is to do it naturally and quickly. There are plenty of over-the-counter medications, but they have their own side effects that just create a new problem. If taken too frequently, headache medicines may even lose their effectiveness.

Here are some natural headache remedies that you can use to quickly eliminate that headache:

• If you’re at home, take a warm bath. Many headaches are caused by contracted muscles and a hot bath will relax those muscles. This is especially great for tension headaches.

• If it is a stress headache, exercising can relieve it. Taking a walk to increase blood circulation can help dramatically.

• If the headache is caused by dehydration, drinking water can help, but it may take several glasses until the problem is solved.

• Massaging the shoulders and neck can relieve a tension headache. This is because the tightened muscles causing the headache are loosened.

• For a caffeine, sinus, or allergy headache, a cold or hot compress can make the headache go away.

• Try to sleep the same hours every night. Too little or too much sleep can cause headaches. You also want to try to keep a consistent bedtime.

• Try not to sit, stand, or work in the same position for long periods of time. This can put strain on your back, shoulders, and neck. This strain can lead to a tension headache, so change position frequently to keep this from occurring.

• If bright lights make your head hurt, avoid them. If you already have a headache, try to sit in a room with minimal light. People with migraines tend to benefit from this technique.

• Reduce your intake of caffeine in order to avoid caffeine headaches. This can be one of the worst types of headaches. Unfortunately, there are many people who attempt to solve this headache by taking in more caffeine. The problem is that this type of headache tends to be caused by caffeine withdrawal, so it’s a catch 22.

• Avoid foods that trigger headaches. If you notice a pattern that your head hurts after eating a certain food, that is your sign to avoid it. Try eating organic fruits and vegetables because of their nutritional value and health benefits.

Since everyone is different, different remedies will work for different people. You may need to experiment to find out which one is going to work best for you. Once you find your remedy, stick to it.

How to Prevent Headaches

You can prevent headaches by controlling your stress levels, exercising, and eating balanced meals. All of these go hand-in-hand because stress can be relieved by exercising and eating healthy foods. It may require a lifestyle change, but you’ll not only feel better but you’ll relieve the majority of your headaches!

By implementing these changes and eliminating your headaches, you’ll boost your quality of life and get more done.

My First Schwinn Jogging Stroller | My First Baby!

  • Posted on July 1, 2009 at 9:06 pm

I bought the Schwinn Jogging Stroller after reading tons of reviews all of kinds of brands and models. I wanted a stroller that I could easily use at our nearby park, but one that I could easily pack up myself and put in the trunk for trips to the shopping mall or other parks that are all around the area.

I was a bit concerned because the box looked like it had been opened, but I actually had no trouble with the directions, so I had the whole thing assembled and with no missing (or extra) parts in no time.

First point, I really love the canopy top. It seems to be at the correct angle and height to protect my baby from the elements, but still allow baby to see what is going on. There is plenty of room in the seat, I can just put his sippy cup and some treats next to him and he can just grabs what he wants.

The adjustable height on the handle is great as my husband is 6’1” and he says it works great and does not bother his back or shoulders to use it. I do wish it had some kind of a latching mechanism when I fold it up to make it a bit easier to carry.

I have now tried the schwinn jogging stroller on both regular payment and cement, as well as loose gravel. To my surprise, it handled great on all types, even while jogging and only using one hand. Even going off curbs what actually a real breeze and it maneuvered great! It seems really sturdy and strong, and I am totally comfortable that my baby will be safe and secure.

I must confess, I have used this jogging stroller mostly for walking as opposed to jogging, but that is because of my lack of ambition, not because of the stroller. Overall, this one really fit the bill, and the price was surprisingly affordable. We are very impressed and would highly recommend the schwinn jogging stroller for anyone that is currently shopping for a reliable, solid stroller.

Designed specifically for runners with kids, the schwinn jogging stroller sports 16-inch, easy-rolling wheels good for any terrain. It includes a bottle holder and parent tray for any accessories, and features a strong handbrake, a smooth suspension system, a sun canopy and a handy folding design perfect for storage and transport.
