My girlfriends sister who is 18 was arrested in Ventura County CA. A few months ago she was arrested and convicted of DUI. Just recently she was arrested for drunk in public. Since then she has had the police called to the house twice for being intoxicated since she is on probation. the first time she jumped from a second story window and fractured both feet and they put her on a 72 hour hold at the hospital. the second time she was taken and put on a 72 hour hold at the county jail I believe on a suicide watch. the jail is telling her family that the parents have to pay the bill for this. My understanding is that since she is 18 she has to either pay the fines or spend more time in jail. Why would they say the parents have to pay? is that legal, or are they just looking for someone to pay since she has no money (fired from her jobs)?
any help would be nice, her parents have no idea what to do. I did suggest that they look up the local ordinances or have the jail supply them with the ordinance that says they have to pay but that is about all i can think of. ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING
